I am trying to avoid any use of metal on the chassis. Its causing me to be creative in putting it together. Fiberglass is my thing so this will take some looking at problems from a different angle.

Cot the spring ear off my perfect Big Kahuna Chest plate but the real Batpod only has one shock on the left side so off with the ear!!!

After finishing the tank I can easily make one have to be like the Batpod tank if I decide to make others.

I transitioned grinded the fiberglass on both sides so that the new foberglass would be locked into the old glass. But it never really is 100% because the glass fibers are cut. But for a mock-up it will be fine..

Now the tank needs to be sanded bondo and primered. It still needs to be cut at the belly band and seperated farther to look like the batpod.

The arm guards are done but the ends are not finished so I will have to mock up both front ends to give a more authentic look. Had a big dip in the piece that needed to be filled. I like to fill with fiberglass. Its kinda old school but minimized the amount of bondo used. Bondo tends to shrink over time especially when the vehicle is black and draws heat from the sun.

Now to build the shock mount I pattern it out in cardboard. This is very critical. Its so easy to get it right in cardboard and the convert it over to fiberglass. The holes are really off but easy to realign with a straight edge.

Here is the offset being sized, Notice that the PVC runs through both walls of the offset for better strength. The corner braces are epoxied in but will be fiberglassed over that for strength. Its important that the PVC be sanded on the outside and inside for better adhesion to the fiberglass resin.

The is the axle attached to the fork with epoxy but this is just to hold it place prior to fiberglassing. Thats where the strength is. Thanks for looking, I got to go to bed...dave aka BWD

Dave thanks for all of the info!! I know there is going to be a bit of trial an error, i just figure any of it i can weed through by asking questions will be a help. Im fortunate to have a custom bike builder as a friend of mine so im sure I will be leaning on him from time to time as well.

All those parts are looking great and boy do you work fast!!! Keep it up!

Hey Dave i actually have one other question that just came to me. Its not too important cause its a long way off, but ive been racking my  brain trying to figure out how the guns on the right side are mounted. Ive been lookig at pictures and I see a large black sleeve or tube going into the hub, but how would that attach and not spin??

The only thing I can think of is somehow its attached to the end of the actual spindle? That would be the only stationary part right? If you have a minute and know its done. Thanks!

Mike

Hey FLMike, yeah thats a spindle. The spindle is stationary and the bearing rotates around it.Its asking a lot for that spindle to support all the weight and not rotate or flop around. I think having the whole unit light weight would help and a large enough spindle to support it. Hope that helps. Today was a busy day but I got some more fiberglassing done. I have a limited amouny of time to work on the project before we roll to the show. I can absolutely say that the bike will not be finished but hopefully it will look like something. When we get back I will definitely finish it. I do like deadlines cause it gets you to get a lot of stuff done quickly.BWD

Here is a pick of the foot rest I made for the Big Kahuna I will have to redo another set but this time it will be powdercoated instead of the hydrographic carbon fiber look.
