Well, thanks... its not the same course and its before I finished the interior of the 89 but it was still monumental for me. This was back on November 2011. We may be taking the 89 to our big event in 25 days. I have been really dragging on the Honu1 Batpod replica because it has been over 100 degrees the last 5 days. Got the Honu2 to steer today!!!!!

Got up early as I started freaking out about having 25 days left. Started bolting things together and drafting some of the pieces so I can water jet parts later. Sure glad I took a class in mechanical drafting in high school. Got so many things to do I'm being drawn into ten different directions. Ended up selling a pool today which is great but took a bit of time to draw it up. Tomorrow I hope to get my H1over to the shop and get the bead locks separated. I'm going to have a rock guard welded onto the rim. Such a coordination ordeal. Got my new 42" TSL but it will be a while before I can mount them. But main goal over the next four days is to get the Honu1 back together and finish the gun cluster. I feel like a broken record here...Here's a video on some of the parts I had powdercoated. Thanks for looking....dave aka BWD

Happy fourth of July to everyone!!!. Go up early and did my walk. Then I took the Hummer over to my fab shop and took the rims off the vehicle. I have never split the bead lock wheels but it was actually easy. I.m getting some skull and crossbone rock guards so I need to get the outsite wheel sandblasted to weld the piece on and then have it powder coated probably a Lambo Green. Then I will have to reassemble and mount the new TSLs. The bolts on the beadlock look like harden steel and had rusted a little so I think I will replace them all with cadium bolts. Got a chance to check the steering out on the Honu2 and it works really well. Think I may go back to the Big Kahuna and duplicate this steering assembly. The wheel is turning at a faster rate than the handle bars so its looking good. The drive belt is a little too long so we are first going to try and get a larger drive pulley. Then we will have to fab up a belt tensioner. So the front fork can be welded. Electrical bracket can be mounted. I hope to be able to put more stuff on the Honu1 but I did create a little video on the chassis. Thanks for looking....BWD

Thank you Kevin that means so much to me coming from another builder as yourself. I cannot tell you how much I sweat the details. I'm definitely obsessive. I'm working on the left rear wheel mount. It's aluminum. I trying to decide polish, painted, sandblasted or powder coated look. I want people to notice its fabricated out of a 1" plate of aluminum. Then there's a cast steel hub that goes over it. What color should that be flat black semi-gloss or glossy? Gun metal gray, black or even red? The bolts are stainless and the aluminum is drilled and tapped. I wonder flat washers, lock washers or no washer? My brain is a confused place. Lol I have 20 days left so it's always hurry hurry hurry.
Today was such a milestone because I was able to sit on the Honu2 under its own weight and mine. Its more heavily weighted to the left but is still stable. The spring we are using is not stiff enough.but I have another QA-1shock to try. I think we may make the deadline. Thanks for looking....Dave

Thanks Terry that means a lot to me. I appreciate the kind words.
We had a major obstacle with the drive pulley when the one that came in after 5 days of waiting was the wrong one. The new one was suppose to take another 5 days. I kinda blew a gasket and in my frustration came up with an alternative plan by extending the bracket to the cross over tube. It was a couple hours of welding but the end result worked. So the Honu 2 has a drive system and a front steering system that is Done!!! Next job is to extend the shock mount and mount some of the electrical components. I have my father in laws memorial and service on Thursday and Friday so I will not be working so I may have a little time before and after the events to work in the garage.
I only have 18 days left so I need to finish up the honu1 and build a crate for shipping it. The Rumbler is suppose to be delivered to my house on Friday so I can spend a couple days to tighten things up a little. Install the license plate and rear mudflat assembly and drive it around town to make sure everything is ready for our trip. I have a couple light fitting to get working and spend some time running the vehicle.then it will be loaded onto the trailer . Next ill get the 89 to my house to fit the muffler. It will need a little work done to it and again make sure the canopy is still functioning. Lastly we are going to attempt to change over the Big Kahuna steering system. The Honu2 works so good we are going to duplicate that steering mechanism and trash the hydraulic system.mHope to get some nice videos of the Big Kahuna running.thanks for looking Dave mahalo!

So we are down to 12 days and some things are just not going to happen. Powdercoating the Honu2....nope Front gun cluster for the Honu1 ...questionable. May try and redo the steering on the Big Kahuna instead. I have a static hydraulic steering system on the Big Kahuna and it works but.... not very well. Since we kinda figured out an easier way to do it on the Honu2 my partner is pushing to redo that. I feel like I'm in a dream....whatever. So we are scheduled to have the exhaust done in stainless at the end of the week. I may quickly paint the Honu2 just to get a coat of something on the bike. The Honu1 needs front gun cluster and that's it. The Honu2 needs footrests and knee rests installed. Shock mount extended by an inch. A sensor and switch  extended by 4 feet. Antifreeze, oil and differential fluid added. oh yeah elbow pads added too. Then I'm suppose to get the Rumbler tuned up. All this in a week wouldn't be bad but we are still running a business. lol..

PS we did get a guy interested in having us build a Lambo replica but I really want to build Batpod replicas. Oh well we will see.

Got some more done on the honu2 and it's looking very nice. We got footrest and kneepads installed. Tough part was lengthing the shock mount an additional 2 inches. It's a common problem setting the ride height and then mounting the shock only to find out we did not calculate spring compression. So I adjusted the coilover shock 1 inch compression and it lifted the chassis 3 inches. With the shock compressed that 1 inch when my partner sat on the bike his weight bottomed out the bike. So moving the mount 2 inches I gained 6 additional inches of ground clearance. Now I can recenter the shock adjustment and I should have the correct ride height.wont know for sure until we ride it tomorrow.after some minor welding we will take the bike to another buddys shop to have a custom stainless exhaust installed. It may be possible to have my painter paint the bike on Saturday. That would be a dream come true! Then next week will be final assembly and building a crate.
We have made a commitment to refabricating the Big Kahunas steering from that hydraulic crap to a traditional lever and rod system. Only one quirkie thing is the use of two sprockets and a chain to get two parallel shafts to rotate together. I got like $700 of shafts, mounts and connectors enough material to do 4 cars and $200 worth of sprockets, chains, hiem joints and all thread to do two cars. Hopefully this works as I only have 10 days. This is going to be a crazy week ahead of me.thanks for looking Dave aka BWD

Wow that looks really great. Better than what I had expected.

Thanks for updating but you should check out other threads once in a while. Like the Side Mech and soon to be in Nitro's hand Hot Toys 1989 Batmobile.
