Conrad, honestly i cant remember what engine it was, all i recall is that it was honda, OHV, 13hp, electric OR pull start, with key. Red, white gas tank, black air filter and exhaust all tucked up on top and strong! Streaker brand of go-cart.
I hope your stepson is ok! Let us know the results!!!

well a week b4 Christmas we got over 2 feet. lately it's been light but I can't wait for more! I love it. stepson will be on the DL for about 2 months. he was bummed cause he had an opportunity to guard the number 8 player in the country in a game this week. he's a great competitor. thanks for the vid T-Man...i did get that starter back on and bypassed the low oil shutdown, but it still shuts down when put into gear. maybe locking into drive like that is shutting down the motor? like you were saying, if the engine did stay on, the vehicle would go. I'll be looking for another belt this week. and now it's back to work.
...does it come in black?

it sounds like its choking the engine down from the sudden shock of being in gear. Like there is enough back force on that belt that the engine cant revolution enough to stay operating. If that makes any sense. Doesnt sound like an oil sensor.

Conrad, that guy is exactly right. That is how my streaker go cart was done up, and as the engine RPM's up, it squeezes the belt thru a spring contraption, allowing it to start pulling on the drive line.
And as he said, it will look as if you can slip it right off the unit.
If you have issues finding a correct belt, perhaps sliding the motor back towards the axle to create slack would work. As T-man said about the size of the belt, it wont take much honestly.

The problem with moving the engine back more is that the carb and air filter are already as close as possible to the right rear shock....can't go back 'no more. So yes you small engine gurus are right about the belt. So today I got us and went back to swap it for a new one...
