GREAT to hear from you Jack!

So it's day 3 of my vacation. Here's what i've been doing..

The original brake idea was to make something up...but then decided to go back to the Golf Cart place and get the oem brake cables and hardware used for the yamaha rear. I mounted everything up to the cable bracket. from there to the brake pedal I tried to use a brake cable I had from the Dingo go kart...when my stepson pushed me i slammed on 'em and the bolt and cable i used snapped.

So i replaced it with the thicker stock cable (should've used it in the first place)...

here it is installed

That's better.

So with that I went to mount the motor. Whoops...before I do that i better run back to the Cart place for a belt. i don't want the drive and driven wheel to be too far apart and have problems getting something to fit. I've read stories of guys using snowmobile belts cause theyre long. I'm just trying to use what the equipment was intended to be used with. I want the belt that is "recommended for use with the yamaha g11 axle/ transmission for gas carts".

I found a comet 40 tourque cnvtr that fit's the Honda's keyed shaft perfectly...I looked at the cnvtrs on the other golf carts and they're HUGE. the tech there said that "ya seen one, ya seen 'em all" and told me the comet was good for my use (although i don't think he remembers the size of the rear tires).

so i got the belt and headed back to size up the mounting holes on my engine platform. before I had the belt i never really knew exactly where the engine would mount.

here's the mount before

after..

The belt length (laid out) is 41". I had to exted the engine back more to get lined up with the driven wheel on the axle.

luckily i got the angled air filter...the carb stops just short of the right shock...

So wow...wait, iThought...this thing is very close to moving on it's own. I got the jack stands, bolted down the motor (and tourque cnvtr) and started the engine.the wheels didn't move at all which scared me. then i realized this isn't the go cart. I had a transmisiion and the shifter was set to netural.

COOL. so i began playing with the shifter which sounds like it locks in to forward and reverse hard but not as hard as i expected. it just sounds like it locks into gear and goes. I sat in while it was idling to see how the rear brakes did. well, the right wheel stopped but the left took some pushing of the pedal. I still have my front brakes working so will get those setup.

Need to tighten up those rear brakes...it IS a used axle and i never opened up the drums to see how bad the brakes are worn. not to mention 29" tires and steel wheels.

so anyway on to the throttle. here's the top of the honda where I had to figure out the direction everything went when the throttle was engaged and the direction of the spring back. i replaced an old spring with a bigger one.

I had use of a cool guide on how to install a remote throttle from affordablegokarts.com. I didn't have their "kit" per say but I was using a bunch of cables and parts I bought for this purpose. and a couple of home depot grade springs.

so the distance from the gas pedal (the yamaha blaster's clutch pedal) to the throttle controls was pretty long - longer than any cable I had. I only have a couple days left of vacation time so i couldnt order anything...i needed to do some Macgyver-ing .

here's the finished (working) throttle setup...from the motor

down the right side of the cage and along the floor

it was the ongest cable I had but too short. dug through my tool box and found this little coupler. on one end was the throttle run from the motor...on the other end i continued with a thicker cable to the gas pedal.

or quad clutch pedal..haha
