I think I missed some posts... I see now about the upside down turbine. It would be no surprise that this scene would use a stunt car. Obviously they put the turbine (or what ever it's called) in upside down. However, the fenders in this scene appear to be the wide ones.

Good points Jack!
She was definately NOT a one piece, never was...
Silent Bob used to glass the two halves together to make them easier for me to transport at the time.
He welded the gate on my trailer straight out so that the overhang on my rear wheels was insane. Then he added "goal posts" on top of it so I could haul two cars at a time.
We used to get stick-on reflectors at the auto parts store in downtown El Cajon and stick them on the back of the batmobiles where the tail lights would eventually go. I used to tie-strap my trailer plate to the upper car.
Must have been unusual for people driving behind me to see. I have some pics, but again... "pre-digital" so I have to do the scan thing.
But the one piece body was always great to align the front end without having to clamp the car in one place for your wheelbase measurement, so I still do that today. Just transported one last night and they slide out of the trailer (New box... the "goal posts" have become parts of cars these days.
But Jack... your comment on the weight of the hood is the ever important "second" reason for the Saab hinges! The first being that when you need to load your car onto a trailer or clear some obstacle that your lift system just can't handle... (driveway apron or killer speed bump or curb) you need only "pop" the hood, clear the obstacle and get out and close it.
And I guess on a really windy day, you could use it as a sail if you run out of gas.

Hey, Paul, I have a question for you. I live in Escondido, a bit north of El Cajon. I have a friend that lives in Santee and swears that he used to drive past a business that had an '89 parked in front of it for awhile. I keep telling him, "No, No, I would have read somewhere on CLTC if someone in the San Diego area had an '89 Batmobile." But now I wonder...Did you or someone you know ever have one parked somewhere around here???

So now where are we?
1) No smaller cars in all the pix?
2) What about the upside down turbine?
3) Where is the car with the clown trippers?

Christo.
Yep... Sure was. Now Silent Bob used to call that guy "the F'ing Televangelist". That car was put together by Dan's builder and DID have a fighter canopy.
NSB used to bitch that the San Diego car would get everyone sued because this guy was told, same as everyone to keep them out of sight and quiet and he dragged his car all over San Diego.
It's quite possible that this car became the Carmel car, because I never heard of anyone actually claiming to have built the Carmel car, but it appears to be the same construction. Haven't talked to J.R. in a long time so only he would know for sure.
I'm not sure the "clown tripper" car even exists. I'd put good money on a process car panel that was mounted to some sort of skeet-shooting launcher on a second unit stage.
The "short" cars could have been stretched over time because each of the Six Flags also got one of those full-size rollers to out in front of the "Batman - The Ride" attractions. Just like Six Flags Great Adventure and Rods and Racers... SOMEONE'S got to be maintaining them and would have been able to replace the missing sections. They're cool to look at though and sound even worse.
Powered by VW bus engines they sound like go-karts going around the kiddie track. (You know that goofy sound that only a dune buggy or a Beetle makes) They were sectioned just forward of the speaker boxes at the hood and contain no "missile/clown-tripper" doors. The hoods end just behind the forward wheel flares. So stretching the front end and replacing the hood would be about all that would need to happen to make them full-size once again.
Have pics, just need to scan them.

The guys who owns the Carmel car is some sort of radio-vangelist nut-job. Could it be the same guy or is that just a coincidence?

I went through tons of stills and pics of every car I could find and it looks like the original and the returns have the same width rear quarters. So they downsized for Six Flags then right? The easiest way to tell would be to have overhead shots of the cars. I have one from what I think is returns, but I can't find any overhead shots from the original. Anyone have one?
