Started another little fiberglass project. Just trying to get my fiberglassing skills before the Big Project. Finished the front panels on the Big Kahuna and just got in the fiberglassing mode so I figure I'd take out some of my motivation on this little project. My plan is a pretty big fiberglass project in the near future and "Practice makes perfect". Thanks for looking...BWD

Hey T-man good to hear from you. Hope everything is going well. Yeah I like sheetmetal work but  have really found that fiberglassing is my thing. Plus it has the added advantage of being able to pull a mold for dupilcation. I like the fact too that in a crash it wont cut off my head like a piece of sheetmetal. Lol For some reason I feel safer in fiberglass. Its strong, non corrosive, non conductive light weight and has the ability to be easily duplicated.

I have a couple candidates for the go -cart. I will be buying an off road buggy similar to what Batman4reals has. So I will make the panels first then try to adapt them to the best buggy for the build.Thats about it. Thanks for following the build.BWD

Hey d.psiras, No the ones I saw at home depot wouldn't work. These are made from a different type of epoxy resin. In high stress areas I make my own sheets of fiberglass using an old window from a Dennys diner. All of the Rumbler was done that way. This is more like a plug for an eventual mold so I didnt need to be so heavy duty. I do recommend fabricating the sheets, but since this will be used as a plug it will be ok. The problem is the adhesion of the resin to those fiberglass sheets. Home Depot type panels use a wax in them which does not allow for good ahesion. The stress from vibration, heat cold will eventually create hairline cracks at the seams. These panels will be used as a plug and then create a mold off them then the final panels will we one continuous piece. Thats the right way to do it.

If you imagine cutting a fiberglass sheet in half then reconnect it using a fiberglass bond strip. yet theres still the cut between the two panel. You can let resin drip between the cut but there's no strength in resin. Bondo primer or paint adds no strength at the cut. But I can use it to create a plug on which a mold will be pulled off and then lay fiberglass in the mold and pull out one continuous fiberglass with all the appropriate corners and edges. That final peice will be seamless and durable as well as light. You may already know this but I wanted to explain it as fully as I can. BWD
