Hi Shaggy,

Chalk that one up to camera trickery.. all the panels and frame dimensions are as close as humanly possible to your model

Here is as best a picture I can get from looking at the top.  She narrows down at the back significantly

So I think I have the main outer frame figured out enough now to start adding some of the body panels.  Where these body panels will attach will also dictate where to place extra bracing on the chassis for attachment points.

Finally got the frame solid enough that I could unscrew it from the rolling platform and ensure that everything will still be square.  I needed to get it up on Jack stands so that I could start working on some of the body work that wraps under the vehicle.

I also put in the supports that the firewall will be attached to.  I gave myself 54.5" from the front of the cabin to the firewall.  I also put down the supports that will end up making the driveshaft tunnel.  I gave 11" of space in there for the drive shaft and the V-Drive.

Batmobile

Also got the rough side panel on there.  I'll be starting in tomorrow working on the panel that has the gas caps in it.. I'll be taping together the printed templates tonight so that I can cut them out tomorrow.

Started off today with the panels by the side windows that house the fuel filler caps.

Shaggy, the templates that you had weren't quite as wide as I was going to need to get the 5" of clearance for the fuel filler caps.  So I did some modifications on the templates to make them wider.  Both the one that has the fuel filler caps and the one next the window.  We'll see how much this throws everything off   Shouldn't be too bad as I didn't mess with anywhere that other panels attach, and this one is pretty free standing on its own.  You will see that I have screwed all these in place with drywall screws because I had no idea if I was going to have to move them or not.  Also didn't know the angles that I wanted.

Batmobile

Then I started in on the panels below these ones.  The templates were great because as they all fit together they gave the needed shape.  So I taped them all together with tuck tape and then busted out my angle transfer tool to make some bracing to go behind.  Then I grabbed the brad nailer and nailed them in place.

Then I got them all put together and onto the chassis.  You will see that I am using some temporary spacers to hold the body pieces away from the chassis until I figure out how the panels in front and behind it will fit together.

So tomorrow morning will be finishing off the passenger side by replicating the angles on the drivers side.  Then I will be working on the panels in front of the ones I did today.

After looking at some more photos.. it looks like I will have to flatten out the top a bit more.. put it on less of an angle than it is now.

That is exactly why I put screws up in that area.. I knew I would make some kind of mistake

im glad you caught that, i was gonna suggest doing that, but i didnt know if that was part of your modifications to the panel you spoke of.

It is really coming along great!  I'm actually quite excited to see my panels working out well for someone else just as much as they have worked out for me

Now when you get to the LLLOOOONNNGG panel that attaches behind the one you have already sitting on your Tumbler (the one right above the side intakes) there is a mistake at the top, its gonna have to be trimmed down a bit at the tip top to fit properly.  I would gues about 4" or so.    You'll definately see what im talking about when you imagine the upper intakes trying to fit between that panel and the roof panel too.    Just one of the errors i thought i would make you aware of.    Happy building!

This thing looks great….. but what are you going to do with the wooden frame when you decide to replace the out side with heavy ballistic paneling? Ha ha …plus since its all going to be wood whats going to happen when you kick on the jet..?…lol .....wosh..

Wood frame is just there as a mockup.. All the panels are removable.. Once I have the panels done, they will all come off and the frame will be made out of metal.

All the panels will simply just be plugs to make molds from as well.

Ahhhh... That looks better:

Batmobile

Batmobile

Batmobile

I finished up the passenger side as well:

Batmobile

Batmobile

You'll notice that I didn't fasten all the pieces at the bottom of the passenger side. After looking more at the photos, I realized that the templates were a bit off here.  The panel that is at the back of the bottom needs to be bigger and at more of a square'd angle coming back to the chassis.  So once I get everything in place I'll create a template for that area.  If you are not sure what I mean you can check out the below picture:

Batmobile

So I'm about to start cutting the templates for the panels in front of this area.  And I noticed that there was a bit of a difference on the actual Tumbler compared to the model/templates.  So I am going to make corrections there.  I'm loving these templates because they are a great starting point and I can make adjustments as needed

Here is the difference between the model/templates and the actual car:

Batmobile

Hopefully there will be some more pics tonight
