I will post disc. channel dates and times. when I get them. this wed. the 28th, European T.V. is coming to tape a full day for a T.V. show devoted to cars in Europe. I finally got power steering to the rack and pinion. way more fun to drive. Feels just like a regular car. was tough, I had to modify the rack some, as I have the rack hidden from the inside, and from the outside. was a tough part to do.

Couldn't have said it better. You and I would get along great! I want to build one so bad, I can't stand it... although mine doesn't have to be 100% accurate. I want to make a few aesthetic modifications, as well as increase visibility somewhat. With the economy being what it is right now, I figure I'll just spend a lot of time on Solidworks ironing out the design. Thanks for the great pics! Your project is tremendous!

Exactly what do you mean by "overlay"? Are you talking about using an over-head projector to reference scale and/or dimension of your physical car? (As in shining the projector light at the car to determine accuracy/error?) If so, you have to realize that there is a fairly large margin of error by doing that. You're projecting a 2D image onto a 3D object with various depths of field... not shining it onto a 2D projector screen. Overhead projectors also distort images somewhat, so the projected picture is not entirely accurate to the transparent media. Just wondering, and thought I might throw that in. Referencing your photos, your project looks as close to 100% as a man could possibly achieve... especially considering your photo and DVD reference materals. I like to use 3D CAD software to work out bugs in my design(s) before I ever start. But that's just me. You've done an OUTSTANDING job!!!

That's where I have to deviate from your plan, Bob. While I don't need a 100% accurate Tumbler, I do want my machine to move. I won't be drag-racing it, or qualifying for NASCAR, but I do want it to get up and go. Therefore, I'll be using 4130 Chromolly aircraft tubing for the roll cage. And the body (for the most part) will be aircraft 6061-T6 aluminum sheet, instead of steel. All parts will be sprayed with zinc chromate primer, for rust prevention. I don't need this thing to be bullet-proof. I want basically a monocoque construction, as many of the airplanes I've designed and/or built. With a modified 350 EFI or a 6.6L Duramax diesel, I figure this thing will move fairly well. The cockpit will be based on the original design, but adapted for comfort. If I ever build this thing, I want it to be 1) Impressive as hell, 2)comfortable to drive, 3) fairly quick, and 4) street legal/insurable (I'll probably add front and rear "brush guard" style bumpers, for legal reasons... not to mention turn signals. Rear-view cameras are questionable, but I'll have them. The state might make me install permanent rear-view mirrors, however. I'll integrate them and make them look natural... no problem.) All I'm waiting on is money. I recently sold my metal lathe and mill, so I'll have to wait for the economy to pick back up so I can replace those two items. Then comes the expensive part. I applaude you for your efforts, and for your posts!

VERY good question! I'm an aircraft man, and this would be my first automobile project. I don't know where to get engine/transmission dimensions, other than from the engine/transmission itself. I don't have the finances to have those items sitting around right now, while I work on Solidworks plans for my project. Anyone have any links, or ideas? Thanks!
