If I build one, I'll definitely put a passenger station in the nose... and there may be a steering controls there, as well. I'm an ex-Marine (even though "once a Marine, always a Marine), and an adrenaline junkie, and always want to try something new. I might not drive the big beast that way very often, but I'd have to try it at least once. It would be hard to explain if you ever got pulled over, though. I'd probably just lay a blanket over me and let the cop try to figure out why there's nobody in the driver's seat. They'd figure it out, eventually... but it would be worth it. Heh heh. "I gotta get me one of those!"

Using servos or any other type of "fly-by-wire" system (hydraulic, pneumatic, etc.) also adds to the failure rate of the system, no matter how well designed... not to mention the added complexity, or cost. My Tumbler (if I ever build it... I have a vast array of projects already) will have mostly manually-operated accessories. In the TDK film, this was a military prototype. I've helped designed prototypes, and there is nothing fancy about them. I was also a Marine, and know that military vehicles don't have an array of fancy gadgets everywhere. I want to build my Tumbler in a military theme, not so much a Batman theme. (Loved the film, but the car really interested me more than anything.) I won't be building a Batman costume, let's put it that way. (No offense to those of you who have.) I even thought about painting it in military-spec desert or jungle camoflauge, instead of the stereotypical black. I've just GOTTA be different! Call my Tumbler v1.2, v1.3, or v1.4 if you want... although I'm sure those versions have already been done! My design will be my own, like everything else I've ever designed or built.

No wonder you're cold, Bob... put some insulation in your ceiling (especially) and your walls. Might cost ya' about $300. HINT: use 1/2" (minimum), 5/8", or 3/4" foil-backed styrofoam insulation (the thicker you can afford, the better) for your ceiling paneling, to hold the insulation in... then blow it with cellulose. Cheap and easy, and it works great. (Otherwise, use R-30 batt insulation.) Most of my friends have at least 30' x 40' shops with 10' walls, and they're all done this way. The foil-backed styrofoam insulation adds some R-value, holds the attic insulation up, plus reflects any light you have in your shop. But you GOTTA have a wood-burning stove, buddy! Otherwise, your options are 1) A liquid propane or natural gas furnace, 2) a bio-mass furnace (corn, wood pellets, etc.), 3) an electric furnace (don't do it), or 4) just shut down the bat cave until summer. Where the heck do you live, anyhow? I'm also an independant insurance adjuster, and travel quite frequently. I would LOVE to see your project in person! Speaking of insurance, have you talked to anyone about insuring this vehicle? Is it even possible? (I'm a property/casualty adjuster, not an insurance salesman. I work catastrophies like hurricanes, tornadoes, etc. I'm just wondering about the pheasibility and legality of driving a beast like this.) Also... have you talked to your state transportation department about licensing this vehicle? I know that my state (Missouri) is fairly lenient on those issues, but they do require front and rear license plates (with lighting), front and rear bumpers ("nerf" style is acceptable, and could be accomodated very easily without ruining the overall appearance of the Tumbler... in fact, might add an ounce of "macho" to the machine), plus normal rear-view mirrors (rear-view cameras are not allowed as a means of rear viewing, although they are certainly allowed), and of course your normal brake lights, turn signals, and reflectors. The Missouri State Trooper I talked to also had an issue with the headlight placement(s), saying that they need to be located at the front of the vehicle. I believe that if I build it, nobody will say "NO" to it. Sorry so many questions. I'm a fan of the machine!

This is an awsome build Bob... Simply amazing I was trying to figure out what Batmobile I wanted more The Tumbler or the 89. Is the Tumbler possibly Streetable like the 89?

street legal....are ua kiddin... finally got around to assembling this: obviously they are not done, still a few details to go yet. This was one of the more tricky things to scratch build as they have to be so bang on, or they could appear to wobble, or be uneven. Wobble free. got more features, and then there are more features coming this summer.
