Cool pictures Dave, and thank you! Someone was at Mark's shop recently and commented that the '89 was receiving the most attention / work, but it appears (at first glance) to be the same as when he posted pics months ago? Interesting.

Again, thank you for the pictures, and CONGRATS on your kit! Tim is very knowledgable in fiberglass, so he has a keen interest in how the bodies are laid up. I am guessing the body is exactly the same as any other 1/4" thick, blown body. Dan's is about the same as well. I can't wait to see some hand laid versions, or SANDWICH core versions like the test Tim did awhile back.

What are we agreeing to disagree about?  I don't think I disagree with anything you've said.  I don't even know Mark let alone have some sort of agenda against him.  I also don't own, intend to own, or even want a Batmobile. (at one time I did but have gotton over it)

Again, I was only interested in what made the body so strong.  The comments about standing on it was kind of a long standing joke.  We kept seeing pipctures of people standing on the bodies to show how strong they were.  Dee is building a house and once commented that he could even stand on it (or something like that).  Anyway, that was meant as a joke.

Also, I never said that the body even needed to be strong in the first place.  Somewhere on here I've commented the same as you that the cars strenth doesn't come from it's body.  Go stand on the roof of a Lexus or Corvette and see how strong it is.  I guess they're just crap...

Anyway, you never answered why the body was so strong.  I can't help but think now that Mark or whoever asked you to tell everyone how strong the body is.  That was always their critisism of other builders.  What's the difference between your 1/4" body and any other 1/4" body?  1/4" of fiberglass is 1/4" of fiberglass, right?

Anyway, I don't want this to be a debate just trying to ask a question...

Hey Stocklottery,  I heard of $8,000 bodies but there were none to be found. I  didn't want one that had been sitting around for years waiting to be finished.

I have a friend who builds boats and some basic dune buggies shells.  When I showed him a picture of an 89 Batmobile I wanted him to fabricate he just started laughing.  When he settled down he showed me recent receipts of supplies, resin, fiberglass matting and the like and I was stunned at the material cost.  In California we have the Air Resources Board which regulates emission from automobiles to paint to fiberglass. And the regulations of materials that must be used in California have skyrocketed.

I can't even imagine the labor needed to build a plug or mold.  He said a body would be between12-15k  but no guarantees, time and materials.  I may have paid too much for my body but I have more time than money and if I would have done it myself you guys would have laughed yourselves silly.  When I set my body on the donor frame and squint my eyes just right it looks like its 90% done.

So unless a person is talented enough to fabricate it themselves, you have to bite the bullet. At least Mark was there willing and ready to build it for me Sometimes even those windows of opportunities close.  Big Wave Dave

I should have bit the bullet and bought one when a price 'war' was going on  many 'moon' ago. Shoud have, would have; I guessed it's history..

Can history repeat itself??

Hey Stocklottery,  I'm always a day late and a dollar short.  On my build site you can see a perfectly good Camaro body chopped up and hauled to the dump.  But I've learned to be open-minded with my build.  And every once in a while even I get lucky and seized the moment.  Big Wave Dave

Hey Justin I definitely agree with that.  I have a friend building a kit car with a  mid 2005 Corvette engine mounted with a porsche trans axle and the body is all carbon fiber.  It looked like it came out of a laboratory.  Definitely too nice to cover with paint, but its going to be red.  I've seen some awesome bodies hand pounded out of aluminum.  But we're actually lucky these bodies are not a dime a dozen.  It would be terrible to have the 89 Batmobile as common as say a Ferrari. Sorry Ferrari guys, Big Wave Dave

Hey Tim, I'm just happy with my body and Mark hasn't told me to say anything. Its actually kind of weird I think he could make lots of money with say better marketing.  Anyway I could take some pictures of the underside if you want, but  I don't know fiberglass construction as well as you do.  OK,we agree to agree.  Is that true you really don't want a batmobile? Please tell me that's not true.  You know I do like these discussions. Big Wave Dave

Hey Justin, There was alot of dust on that body and appeared to be there for a while.  I saw he was getting another donor ready for the other body.  My concern at the time was I did not want that older body. Mark says he works alone no employees.

He also has a clever way of moving these bodies by himself.  Using these portable car dollies on the back and lifting the front.  When I got my body home I bought some cheep car dollies and it worked. The bodies are made in some undisclosed place and he gets them built as needed.  I asked if I could meet him for 30 minutes when I drove down the deposit and we talked for two hours.  Very nice guy. He's very knowledgable about making movies cars and has a couple speedracers and a munstermbile.  He's building the body out of steel for a client.

I'm assuming you are the Justin that was hurt in that accident.  If this is you god speed in your recovery. Big Wave Dave

Hey Justin,  I'm really a newbie. I use to have a motorcycle but after some near misses, my wife and I worked out a deal.  I can't have a motorcycle.

I've been married for 18 years and I've totally lost control.  My compromise is a street legal dunebuggie.  Its made on a tubular frame so the wind can blow threw my hair and it feels like I'm flying down the highway on my Harley.  Ok not really,  I lied.  Do you want to see a picture of it?  Big Wave Dave

This has got to be a record for number of posts in a build thread without the builder posting!
