It seems you're taking something I said personally. I have no beef with Mark and certainly not with you. Maybe it would help if you understand that my interests lay more with fiberglass than they do with batmobiles. Let me re-ask the question. If you have an '89 batmobile body that is 1/4" thick, what makes it so strong? Did whoever laid it up do anything special or is it just the shape of the vehicle that makes it sturdy? I'm not even questioning the quality of the layup. There are plenty of things that can be done but I've never seen any '89 bodies that incorporated any of them. That's why I'm asking. You commented on how strong it was and I wanted to know why? How is it different than anyone elses, or is it? Tim

Hey Tim, I like you and appreciate all the nice coments you put on my build log. If you reread our conversation it looks like there is an agenda. I'm new to the site and very much appreciate the information and inspiration I have been given from all members of CLTC. But I not new to life. I have been messed over by the best people that promise one thing and deliver another. I've been lied to, cheated and stolen from. Mark did exactly what he said he would and that is rare. In my opinion, the body is not the structure, its simply a skin. It needs to be supported and reinforced with steel. I paid $13500 for the body and it was worth every cent I paid. Can I bolt it on a car and drive it around? yes. its that strong. But should I reinforce it with a steel structure and adhere it with epoxy and spend hours block sanding it for paint. Yes! If the finish product is to be good. We are a family at CLTC, we are just brothers who can agree to disagree. No worries Big Wave Dave

Hey Stocklottery, I heard of $8,000 bodies but there were none to be found. I didn't want one that had been sitting around for years waiting to be finished. I have a friend who builds boats and some basic dune buggies shells. When I showed him a picture of an 89 Batmobile I wanted him to fabricate he just started laughing. When he settled down he showed me recent receipts of supplies, resin, fiberglass matting and the like and I was stunned at the material cost. In California we have the Air Resources Board which regulates emission from automobiles to paint to fiberglass. And the regulations of materials that must be used in California have skyrocketed. I can't even imagine the labor needed to build a plug or mold. He said a body would be between12-15k but no guarantees, time and materials. I may have paid too much for my body but I have more time than money and if I would have done it myself you guys would have laughed yourselves silly. When I set my body on the donor frame and squint my eyes just right it looks like its 90% done. So unless a person is talented enough to fabricate it themselves, you have to bite the bullet. At least Mark was there willing and ready to build it for me Sometimes even those windows of opportunities close. Big Wave Dave
