Good idea. If you can build a small scale one then it is much easier to do the full scale one because you will know the areas of concern and what needs to be done. I have learned so much by doing this wooden mock-up. And besides, It is fun.

So true and when I starts taking shape you really get excited. I've been following your build and another tumbler build they both looks so cool. It's the inspiration I need to continue mine. My ultimate is the 89. once I get hold of the body it will be a quick build as I'm getting a hotrod shop to build it for me

hey bopenstein,
"Coming along nicely. Looking at these builds inspired me to start a mini tumbler that will just be a show piece it's only about half size if I can get the sizes correct and in proportion."

There are several excellent models to work from. It takes just as long to build 1/2 size as 1:1 full size. If you have the space available you might give 1:1 some consideration. If you hope to build a 1:1 Tumbler in the future you would save tremendous time by building in wood now. vertigo

Update:

I've been working on the front side boxes (for lack of a better name). Lots of parts! Here are the parts laid out on the floor:

Batmobile

And what it looks like assembled:

Batmobile

Next step is to figure out how to attach them to the car.

Spent a few hours today trying to mount the drivers side box. Got it to the point that it looked really good then lowered the car down off the jack and it all shifted on me. I'm going to need to spend some time beefing up the framing.

hey sly,
I really like the way your DOJ Batmobile is coming along in wood. It is a perfect textbook example of the benefits of building in wood first, where the fitting of parts can be worked out, and later translated into steel or other more difficult mediums. vertigo
