I really appreciate the insight BWD! I"ll email you this week.
I guess this is such a big project I want to dig right in but I'm not sure where to start.

Ny best suggestion is to build it on paper....Start writing a list of everything you need to do and break it down into doable tasks. As you go through this process you will be able to see how far this project can go. But start the project in paper.....BWD

I would have to agree with modeling on paper if you don't have CAD skills. Design mistakes can be time consuming and expensive when building the actual thing and parts don't go together. It seems to be a hard lesson learned for the young engineers that have worked for me.

Hey guys! I know it's been a long time!
The short answer to the long absence is...
Dad passed away in Nov., we had to figure out what to do with the farm and house and my Mom, ect.
Anyway, I'm bringing the Sandrail home on Friday and I'm getting started. ASAP.
I have some $ saved up to do this...
I'm wondering if I'd be better off to "farm it out" to some one and just pay someone to do it?
I live in PHX, AZ. Any body want a side job?

First thing its been sitting for a year outside so it needs some TLC.
and I need to change out the gearbox to make it less torque'y and faster on the road.
anyway its nice to be back!

Andrew

Ok, so the Sand rail has been sitting covered for another year. its been a super busy year and I really don't know what the heck I'm doing! I met a friend at a shop called Local Motors. They have a kind of think tank on car builds.
they built this really cool one called the Rally fighter. You can see it @ RallyFighter.com
Anyway my friend Isaac, told me I could take it down there and help me build it!
He's going to teach me to weld and fix it up!
He has a water cutter to cut the sheet metal, and in back they have 3 acres of track to test out their builds!
Anyway, I'm getting started this Saturday!

BWD, I've made a list!
draining fluids, replacing battery and getting it to start is the simple goal of this weekend.

Shaggy, you told be to build it on paper... you made a skewed graphic of the tumbler stretched and raised to fit my chassis. Is there a program or file that you could direct me to so I can use it as a sort of template to start figuring out the dimensions/visibility/ect?

Isaac said they have guys that might be able to help me tweek it a little, but that they couldn't spend the time to "design it" from scratch (or it would cost a ton!). I'm happy to talk with you about how much compensation you would like, for your years of design work.

My goal is to post each week the progress I've made and what I've learned!
I'd like to finish it around New Years!
AWAY WE GO!
Thanks for the support, it's nice to be back!
