Yes, Jeff is Brin. I had asked if it was Mark's car, but then remembered that "technically" Jeff owns it now.

I got an email from a company who said they could supply me wit a turnkey Keaton "replica" car for between $50,000 and $100,000. Jesus. If it was between 50 and 55 yea ok. But, wot's wit the 50k difference. Do I get Michael Keaton to drive me around for the other 50k???

Yea. Agree 100% Snow is cool. That was half an hr ago in Dublin. It's actually 100 degrees in the shade now. We Have to have the most unpredictable weather in the world. My kingdom for a Keaton car

"But, wot's wit the 50k difference."

The difference is they really don't know what's involved in making the turnkey. So they've heard 65... are trying to undercut that, yet still have a buffer of a profit margin in case they can't figure out how to make it for 65 and still make money.

The fact is...

You can pull a thin body out of an 89 mold for about 2 grand.

But should I work for a week for only a thousand dollars. That doesn't even cover payroll let alone rent, power, and misc supplies for the week.

And you have to factor in what it cost me in time, money and ass-kissing to get my hands on some of these cars to pull molds off them in the first place.

Forget about stuff that's hand carved. (Ask Bob D. about that!)

I charge more for a hand carved custom wing than I did for an 89 shell.

Chassis shop charges me 10K to take my body and my donor car and return me something I can drive on to the trailer.

The rest is paint and wheels.

So you put some limo tint on the windows and call it a day.

That's the cheapest way to get an 89 on the street.

That's awesome for some place like SF or a museum, but you need more than that for a private collector.

The level of detail, and how much of a pain in the butt your client is makes all the difference in the world as to the final price.

I factor in my profit based on those two conditions as well as if there is something cool I want to buy for real cash at the time someone asked me about a car.

But you can spend 50 grand just on the interior if you go nuts.

So prices are subjective.

But 50K or 100K for an estimate without the "They start at 50K and can get as high as 100 depending on your requirements" speach sounds like someone who hasn't built the car.
