Have the "privately owned" cars been modified somehow? How wide is that Six Flags car? Looks like material has been shaved off the outside fender, I agree. I was told that the movie cars would not fit inside a trailer truck because of their width. Were the molds/casts narrowed for transport reasons maybe?

dave i think the measurments the wb released where closer than we think on the first cars..and i think the body was off in places is another reason they made new molds...i will show some pictures of what im talking about..

Are those pics of the #1 car in Japan??? Holy crap! Something is waaaay off on that top photo (red floor). I think the photo got squeezed somehow on the right side. Even that guy's leg looks a bit thinned out, skinnier than the girl on the left, strange. I got some pics of the 1989 cars just before filming in England and the fenders look right on and very symmetrical. So is the theory that because the 1989 cars were off, they were re-molded and new casts in the states were used for Returns? The paint under the Onstar hood had black green/ blue pearl from the 89 film.

Rusty - I was told that the pictures you were posting are from a car built by Jay. In fact, Jay and Nye are in some of those pictures. Anyways - I don't know if that is the case, but that is what Paul said. Paul?

You definitely have a point Rusty. I think it may just depend on whose molds a persons car came out of. Both yours and the Carmel batmobile seem thinner on the fenders, but if you look at Jack's(I hope it's okay I stole the picture. ) you can see that his fenders are much wider around the tail lights.

RE: 89 vs 92

Now can I buy that the rear fenders have been made narrower? Yes, buy Rusty's pix they do look smaller. If so it was probably do to get the car in the legal less that 8 foot wide range. Good find Rusty. Now were these narrow cars used in Returns? I say no they weren't. But it does appear that the museum replicas, the Six Flag cars, and other replicas are smaller. How it happened, no idea unless they were contracted to be that way by WB. Bottom line is the rear fenders do seem to be narrower. Check out this line.

Any bets on Mark getting the pix up this weekend?

Yeah I noticed that line too here:

That's definitely interesting! Good find Rusty! Now the question is anyone going to widen theirs to have a fully accurate replica?

RE: 89 vs 92

Ok - what about the fact that Jay was building cars for Six Flags, which to my understanding have the blow away fins? Remember how they would explode off in the show so they had a premade seam where they would "break"? Anyways, maybe they made the fenders narrower to accomodate the removable fins or something for the show? Who knows... Interesting observation however.

RE: 89 vs 92

Good thought Justin....

Way back when Bob Butts told me his 89 was narrower but I never paid much attention to that blurb...guess the proof is in the pudding now as Rustys ride is a grandson of Bobs old mold.
