Has anyone ever build a Batmobile with-out a conventional chassis or a stock (NASCAR) tube and sheet frame? I'm planning on developing, and hopefully building a fiberglass/carbon body and undercarriage that's essentially all one piece -save for the bonnet- similar to the construction of a Corvette.

Check Rustys build. He used a racecar frame. Ive talked to several old school builders and they say that if they were to build another 89 they would use a corvette the second time around.

I've seen Rusty's build and not only is it impressive, but inspiring. However, the challenge is to build a Keaton car with out a conventional or tube frame, but as a composite, unibody design. Some have attempted to modify Corvette undercarriages to match the geometric requirements of the 89/92 model to little to no avail.

Since most builders use a pre-formed kit, it makes sense to have a chassis frame underneath. Why are you contemplating a unibody type construction?

I'm actually planning to o a different route and do a scratch build instead of the frame to body method which is so common and opt for a carbon fiber epoxy undercarriage married to a fiberglass epoxy body. The primary reason for this was to not have to sacrifice a already decent car that can be used as a mode of transportation for another. I'll allow be to fashion the appropriate fixtures for the K-frame, front suspension and IRS rather than a sold axle in the rear. And last it's a design and engineering challenge.

Well the challenge would be the only reason. I'm not sure where your from, but im in southeast missouri, the only way a caprice would be driven around here is because someone made it cool by cutting the body off and making a batmobile! usually they are crushed because scrap prices go up. If anything its resureccting an otherwise boring car and helping the environment thru recycling Long live the 89, and long live the caprice chassis.
Criminals are a superstitious and cowardly lot.

I guess it's all in the way of which it's perceived.

I like the concept, but you'll at least have to form the component around a ridgid frame will you not? Carbon fiber is tough, but I think you need to look at torque twist and brace against it as you form. Personaly, I would start with a minimal tube frame and build the CF chassis over that, then work my way upwards on the body. The tubing, once covered will merely be reinforcement to the CF against body twist, and a place to mount your suspension and drivetrain. Kind of like re-bar and wiring in concrete. It's an ambitious idea to be sure, I just think you're looking at a very THICK chassis component to avoid stress cracking

77 corvette as donor??
As much as I'd hate to even begin dreaming about it...not without a solid plan at least.. I'm tempted to
try to convert a 77 corvette not the keatonmobile but how??
I'm still looking for specs and if I could I'd buy the batmobile molds for a decent price, preferably a full body even.
Any input is welcome
