So is anyone planning to attempt a canopy that opens like in the movie? I would like to, but it always comes down to the big question: Is it worth it?

I'm nowhere near that far along, it's supposed to be a pain in the ass but I gotta try, If it doesn't work I'll try something else, and if that doesn't work something else ect.
If you want it to be like that, yea it's gotta be worth it if you don't care do it whatever way makes sense to you,
Gull wings might worksplit it down the center flip er up side ways..
you're the only person you need to please...do what's right for you then we will tell you it's wrong

I plan on trying to pull it off, to me it's one of the important things that makes it the Tumbler. Obviously that means building the frame in a very different way than other builders have.

I'm also planning on doing a movie style canopy opening. However it is a nightmare to figure out a good configuration. I have toyed with the idea of having two center chasis bars in between the drivers and passengers seats then having the canopy "roll" along a track system mounted on the chasis bars. The downfall being you will see the twin chasis bars when the canopy is open but I think so far it is the best option in terms of safety / movie style opening. I'm also trying to design it without the center bars but its some what more dangerous if something impacts the windshield and there is no re-inforcement behind it.

My canopy works just like the movie cars, I used the same bearings and rod assys. as the real cars. Works just fine, opens with two fingers or with the actuator.

Do you have any pics of the Canopy assembly or where you got the parts? I would also like to see how you did the frame and chasis around that area. Everyththing I have tried tends to leave the frame some what compromised in terms of safety I.E. collision, front impact, or a roll over of some kind.

Kevin, I think these guys are trying to replicate the "flower pedal" opening of the Tumbler, not the '89.

Yea, Kevin made it sound a little too easy to be talking about a Tumbler canopy. Or maybe he knows something we don't? Hmmmmm....
