Whats up people!

I'm fairly new to the board (i think i have one post lol) but I've spent alotta hours reading about all the different things you guys have been building and engineering (I need to remember to log in everytime I jump on this site lol). You've convinced me its time to (finally) build my own Batpod. I spent most of last night combing the boards in search of reference pictures, schematics, blueprints and such, and have found a whole bunch that have been helpful. I've read that everyone around here loves pictures, and it definitely helped convince me the time was right. I'm not a master fabricator, but I work as an assistant mechanic while studying at FIU, so im pretty confident I'll be able to make most, if not all of the bike on my own. I've thought about building the Redblade as well from B&R, but that would be down the line. I want to build this bike and do it justice first, like complete justice. I've even considered building it with one (or both) of the wheels rotating along the z and x axis and having a gyro control certain aspects of it. But thats down the line. This build is about building a fully functional, 1/1 recreation of the iconic motorcycle from TDK and TDKR.

I'm running the numbers and taking measurements as soon as I post this, then running to the hardware store to buy the PVC for the mock up. Dont quite have the cash to buy the tires just yet, so im going to build it on a bench without them for now and use them when I get some. I really only have weekends to work on this, so progress might be slow, and slower during the semester, but hopefully I'll have updates for you guys every week or so. I'm also currently in the process of moving, so this could start in my moms garage, head to my apartments living room, and then end up at work, so bare with me if the scenery is constantly changing.

So feel free to throw me input, suggestions, comments, concerns, etc. I've always been a tinkerer and a DIY-er so I think this will be fun. I'm starting with a couple of the drawings Shaggy made on SketchUp, as well as multiple other pictures and renderings I've found online. Not to sound cliche, but Shaggy's have by far been the most helpful.

I also read the debate, or I guess, mystery as to what the Batpod's power plant was, and if I remember right you guys had decided it was the engine out of the Honda 650XR. Any ideas on the transmission? This will be the first bike i ever build or work on for that matter, seeing as we only ever get oldies and muscle cars at work, so any techincal help about motorcycles vs. cars would be helpful too. I've ridden them before so i know how the physics of riding works, but thats about where my knowledge ends. Also, any ideas on how to make it more powerful? Whats the weight of the bike fully assembled? I very much doubt you'd ever be able to spin the big Hoosier tires, but I've been proven wrong before with things i thought were equally as insane. Let me know what you all think, and if i can be any help to anyone with fabricating or general mechanics please let me know!

Thanks in advance for all the help!

-JR

I've seen a bunch of his 3D models on a bunch of different threads and they're impressive as hell. The level of detail he goes to in them is borderline insane. I downloaded SketchUp and started playing with it but it frustrates me after a certain amount of time lol. I'm a very measure-twice-cut-once kind of guy, so without having exact dimensions and things not fitting just right I get pretty frustrated. I'm going to order the Moebius 1/25 scale model kit and work from there, hopefully building that as well and see where that takes me, and hopefully have the frame started by thi time next week.

would you like me to show you a tutorial (right here on your build log) on how I get my measurments and my angle for each panel via the 3D model? Might make things easier. Dunno.

I was hoping to get some work on the batpod done today, but it seems like its not going to happen. Cars overheated twice today, so I might need to sped some time on that. In addition my parents are at each others throats.

So when I say, "Shaggy, that's the best news I've heard all day, I'd be Saratov if you could help me out with that ." you know I mean it

Thanks in advance!

What's up people!

Sorry i haven't had any updates or anything. We just had two guys quit at work and the workload didn't slow down, so I've been working 12 hour days while trying to help my parents move. In addition, we started the Fall semester at FIU last monday, and now we've got pieces of hurricane Isaac pushing hard through Miami. It's been a nightmare, but I'm finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

I'm hoping to get started on the batpod sometimes soon, but with the season coming up and my water polo scholarship forcing me to spend at least 3 hours in the pool everyday for the next few months I'm going to be out of control busy. I'm going to start buying all my sheet metal and tubing though and stockpiling it in my garage, and maybe start welding in my free time (assuming I get any -.-).

In the meantime though, as I was sitting here in the dark an hour ago (we lost power thanks to the hurricane, but it's back now) I started thinking about the guts of my batpod. I know theres a thread here somewhere about what the correct engine is, and I have (partially) read BWDs thread regarding a right hand output drive engine, but does anyone know what the possibilities of putting something in there to make the bike go faster? Or do we have speed specs? If it already does 90+ mph there's absolutely no reason to make it go faster, but I'm thinking it probably doesnt do that. Also been thinking about the brakes radiator and transmission and such. If anyone can help me out in any way, I'd appreciate it.

Also, I've gotta surprise for all you CLTC members: I'm doing everything possible to make real, working replicas of the guns, that fire paintballs! Lol
Any help with that would be great! I know how a paintball works, CO2 pushes he paintball out of the chamber, but no idea about the air plumbing etc

Thanks in advance everyone!
