hello again builders.i was wondering if anybody could give me an idea of how long i should make the main chassis, minus the front legs.as i would like to start the build within the next few months and want to get a chassis welded together to get the ball rolling.this is gonna be a full scale build aswell.also im trying to price up the whole build apart from the body panels and interior,i can get the same wheels as used in the film for a reasonable amount, cheaper if i buy them from the usa aswell(bonus),one last thing is the rear axel, shud i be looking out for one from a chevy dually or is there another one i shud be looking for,if somebody could help me out a little it would be great.

thanks alot.

dude that sucks! I have a friend with a 97 M3 bmw, that car is stout!!!

Monta, i currently reside in Talladega, I'll be relocating to Washington State come the end of the month. GIVEN that i dont have any delays.

Hey Renegade, if your BMW doesnt make it, i guess you'll just have to replace it with a Tumbler to drive.

Such a shame

Yiour measurement should be from the rear axel center to the ball bearing joint that pivots the front arms. I can't get in there anymore to take a measurement.

as far as the axel goes, if accuracy is an issue, then you need to consider backspacing for the inner rear tires. you have to calculate that in conjunction with the rims, so your axel length will have to be fabricated with inner tire bulge, rim backspacing in mind.

thanks youngbat, fabricating an axle...damme thats more expence.i suppose it dosent have to be the exact length as the original but the closer the better i suppose, just another quick question did you build a skelaton frame over the cage(if you have one)to atatch the outer body panels to?,i have to say your tumbler is very nice(i want it)to say its scratch built as is big wave dave and the others, and i love the batsuits(i want 1 of them aswell)

this is a great forum and could probably not build a tumbler without it. i might scrap the tumbler idea and go for the much, much, much cheaper and easyer batpod build, hmmmm!i need to have a serious think now...

Not sure what you mean by cage. there is a sort of body underneath a lot of the parts. And ya, to do this car accurate is not a walk in the park by any means. Much quicker, and easier to not worry about accuracy. I did build the chassis as close as I could to the original. The difference between mine, and the original is that I have, or am working on a finished interior. I also have a heat sheild, and rubber sound dampers, and thick sound absourbtion material under those pad-like rests in the interior. If you do go super accurate, be prepared for a ton of work. so many pieces/parts to this car it's unreal. never ends. And that's just stuff that isn't mechanical. the mechanical issue is tough because the way the car is designed it doesn't lend itself to the standard arrangement of engine, rack, and drivetrain. If you're going accurate, you will have to mount the engine in backwards. So now you got a lot of messing around with some sort of V-drive situation, and then there's the rack and pinion situation. All of it makes it a lot more work, and figiting to get it all together.

I'll post updated pics pretty soon. am real busy right now.

youngbat,i should of said roll cage,sorry!.....well to be honest the more i read and get told about the tumbler, the harder its sounding to build.i think i will shift my brain into batpod mode and concentrate on trying to build me one of those,i know that wont be easy but it will be easyer than a tumbler by a mile.thanks for givin me all the info so far everybody.
