If a car is going down the road as it normally would, what would cause it to more or less spontaneously combust and burn up without any kind of warning or signs?

if i could take a guess, something, such as oil, was leaking atop the manifold, and caught fire. No sensors will catch such a thing, so a fire could easily start there.

I have also seen the cooler line fall off A/C motors, the motors overheat, catch fire, and start a fire via the passenger side, and since the box it sits upon is made mostly of fiberglass and glue, it doesnt take long for that area to ignite quickly.

Just a few guess's

Thanks Shaggy. I'm sure there are a number of possibilities that could have caused the fire. However, I'm still at a loss.

I'm afraid it was. Nothing much left but a frame and a trunk now.
