Does any one know who might sell this material? I thought it would look good behind dash panels.

Nitro, i'm not really sure where you could obtain that material, but if i may make a suggestion

They have this spray at Home Depot that is a "concrete finish" look, its a rough texture just like that.  Perhaps you could take a flat board, primer it, spray it with that concrete material to give it the rough texture, then paint it with a semi-gloss black paint for the final color.

Just a suggestion    Hope you find what your looking for .

I think its abs, you can buy it in sheets with that texture. I'm pretty sure I remember seeing it at the plastics place here where I buy my fiberglass supplies from.

I think Tim would know with his car audio experience.

Hey Nitro, I'm a little late in the game here but they have that material at Tap Plastics. Not sure if you have a store where you live but it comes in different sizes and colors. Are you thinking about using this material on the 89 or just as a backing? I'm not crazy about the original vinyl on the dash but it does give it the original look......BWD

Thanks Dave. Yes the material is not what the real car had, but all the dash panel pics show the leather or vinyl material does not seem to hold up around the gauges and if you got kids in the car they are going to want to flip all the buttons and play with all the lights launch the grappling hooks and shoot the guns and transform the car into the batmissle. Whoa... got off on a tangent there. Point is It makes it more real to me if I can touch stuff I think every one would like to be able to say that sat in a batmobile fired up the engine and played with the gadgets and the guy that owned it just stood back and smiled..... not cringed.   So I like stuff tough dependable and yes accurate.I also seen that same material  in the pictures of the Chicago 89 that was up for sale it looked like it held up very well. Dave you should know what I am talking about your tumbler is built like a brick ----house.

Hello,

Might I suggest a different approach. Simply make the dash from aluminum and finish it with black wrinkle paint. This paint is widely available. It is also what is used on Ferrari valve covers, vintage European dash boards, airplanes, and vintage cameras. This would be an ideal solution, because of its applications and smart look.

If you do this, follow the directions. However, if you gently use a hair dryer or heat gun immediatly, you will ensure the proper wrinkle finish with in a few minutes. If you let it air dry, sometimes the wrinkle finish is not perfect.

Thanks for the post that sounds pretty good . The hair dryer trick sounds easy and quick, the finish would be very durable. I wonder if there is much diffrence it bed coatings though as far a look and wear?
