Hey DH ive been looking on here and trying to find specs and grade of the fram work for the tumbler and i was told to check these guys out but i cant seem to find out how to get a hold of them. seening as you seem to be doing a lot of post on the build i just wanted to know if you hade any info that i caould use for the sub frame and the upper tube frame.  i may sound a lil annoying and needy but this is the biggest pain in the butt to find info on i can find info on the panels form other ppl but i was look ing t make this thing and make it right so that this project wont look like something clayface droped behind him.  Thanks for you help and effort that you have taken to help if you find time.

I've been wondering the same thing. It's surprising that no one has a mock up of the frame in sketch up or something. Hint Hint Shaggy

The advice that I received from youngbat was that you need to build the frame along with the rest of the panels..

Basically it is all a jigsaw puzzle and is a lot of chicken and egg.  If you are going for screen acurate you want to make sure your exterior looks perfect and then build your frame to fit under it.

It is the same approach done by the guys who made the tumbler for the movie..

They sculpted the outside.. took their measurements and made a chassis/frame to fit.

Shaggy's 3D model is a great start.. you can pull away the layers to get down to the cabin dimensions.

That is my starting point.. getting a frame that fits under the cabin panels as the general shape and then putting in the proper bracing/support from there.

That is the reason why I am starting with wood for my frame so I have a margin of error and a quick way to thow things out that don't work... 3" screws are easier to take apart than welds

Exactly what i was planning on doing, plywood and some 2x4s are alot cheaper than steel. I am not yet worthy of the tumbler sketchup model, so i will have to wait on that. At the moment I'm trying to understand the tumbler as best i can with what i know and have learned here. Good things come to those who wait. GRRRRR

uggh  work was just plain bad today but all is good im off till 1 on sat about the frame and all but im lookingg more toward the chassis that is shown on this build and i was planing to add the panels after i do some modifications like the gullwing style they have done so you can get in and out easier, and to make it meet my states DOT standers fun fun

I'm not sure how I feel about downsizing the tumbler to meet road standards. maybe after i build the first wood one...... I just feel like too much would be off, like the spacing on the front wheels.... unless you bought smaller tires, then you have to find out if the Hoosier sprint tires come in a smaller size.....ramble.......

in missouri the leagal with of a car/truck cannot exceed 10' 4" so as long as it registered here i can drive it with out any problem and the info that i found would have it registered as a kit car.  When i was talking about the dot approved i was talking about the side markers, turn signals, brake lights, ect.
