What tools do you use to block sand your parts? Everything you do seems so perfect!
I imagine you can use a block of wood with sandpaper stretched across it for long, flat areas. But what about the complex parts like these:
What tools do you use, and how do you sand around the little details? When I did my motorcycle last year, I had the darndest time with the area around the gas cap, and the heavily contoured portion of the tank.

No, thank you! So you just use your fingers and some sandpaper? No instruments? I think I can manage that. Keeps the cost down, anyways!

You could always go with a curved sanding block for those rounded parts. I have found that for some complex curves using some type of cushion between like a dense sponge makes it easier on the hands.

Hey Justin when I was under the illusion that I was actually going to do my own body work and paint on my 89 I asked a friend if I could come to his shop and work with his guys sanding for free. He said no problem...After 3 hours I came away with the impression that I'm not ready for bodywork and I'll never be ready for body work. I was able to see that when someone is good at something they make it look way easier than it actually is. Then I was told that they would be willing to sand my car for a nominal fee I was elated. The benefit of them doing the work for me far outweighed my willingness to do this type of work. So we came to an arrangement where they would do this dirty, detailed, boring dirty work and I could go play tennis or something and come back hours later to check on their proress. Its worked out great for me, my lungs are free of bondo dust and my hands are callous free...They are happy with the money I pay them and I am happy with the sef appointed job of pointing out places I think they missed. It truely is a wonderul world.... Check out these machine gun doors if I had done them I would still be working on them and they wouldn't look so wonderful....BWD

I was sanding a fiberglass sub box I had built for a friend in high school and my dad gave me a piece of radiator hose about 4" long to use as a sanding block for inside curves. That worked pretty well. Old people seem to know all the tricks

Yep you will learn that you try everything and stick with wht works. Heater hose, etc... The expert sander is RJ. He built a 1/4 Batmobile out of Bondo and the lines are awesome. Still not sure how he did it. RJ where are you?

Hey Jack I think Chilibean said "OLD people seem to know all the tricks". You going to let that slide? What are we going to do with all these young whipper-snappers? hahaha...BWD

yeah i had to use a piece of sand paper wrapped around a pen to sand in the small crevices around the turbine inlet and fenders. Trying to hand sand in there was impossible.
