I made this for my son this weekend. I carved a foam "buck" and then laid it up with fiberglass. While the fiberglass was still wet I covered it with sand. After it was dry I removed the foam and trimmed the fiberglass. I painted the backside a dark brown. The hole in the back left corner is where the filter goes. I still need to add some plants. Right now it smells like a new boat, fiberglass and silicone, but I should be able to put water in it by this afternoon... He's got two frogs, two newts and some fish...

| There are a lot of things that I could have done to make it better but I hadn't done anything like that before so I didn't really know what to expect. I wasn't even going to add the sand originally. I saw it sitting there while I was laying the glass and decided to risk it not working. As it turned out, it worked great. I like the areas where it isn't as thick though. The color shows through from the backside and looks more natural. That's fine though, it's just for a little 10 gallon tank and overall I'm pretty happy with it. I want to build a bigger one with a stream snaking through it with waterfalls and multiple pools of water.

Thanks Rusty, the creatures seem to like it too. Of course they could all just be high on polyester and silicone fumes.

"Hey look, Tim FINISHED something he started" would be more like it...  I actually finished two projects in two weekends! I built a massive set of DVD shelves the previous weekend (holds about 750 DVDs). I might be on a roll so maybe I should get back to the GC... oh, no wait, it's too cold out... again.

| Here's a pic of the DVD shelves by the way... I wonder if I am the only moron to put swings in the house? It keeps the kids active while I work where I can see them...
