Just a heads up - I will be stepping down from my website administration duties, as I have been way too busy these past several months to keep up with all of my projects. It was my intention to simply let the hosting package expire (this month) and allow it to drift into oblivion. Problem is, I am having trouble letting it go so easily.

www.thebatcave8k.com

I just checked, and it looks like the hosting plan expired a couple of days ago. It can still be renewed and the contents of the site saved, but I am not planning on doing this myself. If anybody is up to taking over the site, I would be happy to continue to provide pictures, videos and articles on a semi-regular basis (including stuff I have never published from my last trip with Nate and Dan and the video of our ride in his Bat) I just can't do it all anymore.

Let me know. I would prefer to see the site continue onward - it has good traffic and a large base of people who check regularly. And it has good Google rankings, but I don't know how long that will last because if the spiderbots browse the site while it is offline it will get bumped down.

Don't do it.  Just pay the dues and let in just be there.

Hey Justin,
I'd consider taking it over. I'd love to be updating a Bat site. Building and creating web sites is what I do all day anyway so it wouldn't be that big of a burden.

Chris shoot me an e-mail. original_trampoline_superstar at yahoo.com

I have gotten several requests so far, but none have been terribly website savvy. I WANT this site to stay online, and I WANT to see it updated. I will be more than happy to help with it, but I simply can't keep up like I used to.

Just a tought...shouldn't you ask the people who gave "You" permission to post their pictures if they want their pictures to remain up if you are no longer in charge of the site?  I mean what if you give it to one of the trolls by accident?  Why not you keep it and just give the admin rights to someone else?

That is an excellent idea.... I can continue to pay for the hosting and whatnot, and bring someone else in for admin and updating purposes. Thanks for the suggestion, Jack.

I started my site on a free account many years ago and it was www.thebatcave.8k.com. The hosting company added the .8k.com subdomain because it was free (I didn't buy a dedicated domain at this time). Well when I was having serious troll issues over a year ago, they complained to my host provider (freeservers.com) and were able to have them suspend my account because freeservers "didn't want to deal with the issues". They had received TWO complaints (guess who...) and that was enough for them to not want to get into a battle over it, so they booted me.

I immediately purchased a professional hosting account from GoDaddy.com (at Tim M's suggestion) and sought out a domain. Since www.thebatcave.com was already taken, I just went with www.thebatcave8k.com since it was so close to what I had already established with the freeservers account (obviously the subdomain was not portable to another hosting company). I learned my lesson - ALWAYS purchase the domain because even if you lose a hosting provider, there are a thousand others out there you can transition to smoothly. BUT GoDaddy.com has been really good to me and they don't put up with BS complaints from Trolls.

I then ran an aggressive "Get the DOT out" campaign to let everyone know where to go to see the new site, and all is well now.

So you were too cheap to buy a dedicated hosting back then and still too cheap now to continue with current hosting.

hahaha. Basically.

Well, actually I took Jack's advice to heart. I renewed everything, and passed the FTP info to our good buddy Chris, who will be helping out with updates and such. I will continue to pay the fees and provide content as long as he wants to keep helping me out.
