Wow that looks like you are going to be able to drive through brick walls with that. I thought my 89 was going to be heavy..

Full structural completion weight will be 712kg give or take 2% due to welding.

Hey Gez,
Sorry to hear the report on your Tumbler. What about working on your Tumbler at a slower pace, spreading the costs out over more time, and doing more of the work yourself. That is how I'm building my Tumbler. I am currently a little ahead of half way on my scheduled four-year build. I am doing all the work myself and have an estimated completion date of December-2017. I have my total costs estimated at between 50 to 75,000.oo that includes a large 30mm Gatling cannon in the nose. Hope you will find a way to continue on with your build. vertigo

Hey Gez, have you thought about a display piece first then start on the running gear, engine and so on later?
Body panels and wheels should be do-able on a budget.
Would have thought getting it on the road a nightmare in the UK.
Just my thoughts cause it would be a real shame if this got shelved now, after so much work.

It is very frustrating Gez. I know, I am also based in the UK and I just love what you are doing. Regarding getting it on the road, what you need to know is.......
a) What will stop it getting passed the SVA or extended SVA? (dimensions of the body, no drivers mirror, etc).
b) Can your plans and vehicle be adapted or altered, but still keep the 'feel' of the Tumbler?
c) Is there any alternatives to get around these problems?
I know how hard this is. Been there done that. Been wanting to build a 'road legal' 89 for quite a few years now (not impossible but still beyond my means or skills). Best thing is try to find a contact in the DVLA who you can talk to about your dream. Let them know your plans and show them what you are doing. Keep them informed of every step of the build and ask for advice. They can be very helpful, it's all about building a rapport with a known person (who might just be on your side and want to see your dream on the road too). Hell, there a cars driven that look absurd as a vehicle and still driven on roads (Couches, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and so on).
I understand that your Tumbler will not be based on an already approved model (thats why I am now looking to build a 'tribute 89' based on a Mazda Miata (MX 5). If all else fails, just you keep on going for it anyway. Maybe you will never get it on the road, but hell when your all done you will have a freaking Tumbler
If I can ever help you out, just ask. I wish you all the luck in the world.
