Ok so here's the deal. For years I called the 66 Batmobile the clown car. With those big stripes and goofy name tags I really thought it looked more funny than menacing. The first time I really got to get close to a 66 was Jett's on the film set in Utah. When I saw it up close it really had a presence about it. Plus Jett was a pretty cool dude and I didn't want to say"clown car" around him. Next siting was the next week at the Salt Lake City Comicon. I saw one that was on the show circuit. I liked it but not the owners business name on the side bat shield. Tacky.
Finally I had a real good look and even got a chance to work on one with Batgod in Branson Mo. That was one of my more entertaining trips. So I get back and kinda decide with my business partner to build a 66bat. Oh let me be clear my partner doesn't actually do any of the fabrication but we share financial and sometime moral support.

Ok here's how I like to work. If people just read and leave I will probably get tired of typing in an empty room and stop coming around. Lol no really. If I get too many silly question or request on me sending you the construction plans I will quickly tire and again will stop coming around. Oh by the way there are no construction plans. So I'd you come around and say hey.....I will stay if you are merely looking in the window I will probably just go to bed.
In return I will provide you with insight on the building of bats in specific and life in general. I have pretty strong opinions on certain things and yet other things I have no idea. Oh if you put a bunch of gibberish about welding around ball bearings on my build log I will quickly delete them. If you have any questions about previous builds I will try to answer them if I want to. So the success of this build log is Totally up to you. I will be finishing my build but not necessarily this build log. Hehe thanks sincerely for looking. Big Wave Dave

as some of you may know we are having a major storm up here in Northern California.

Here's one of the many pics I pulled up on the internet. I like to blow these up to poster size so I can really study the details of the 66 plus Im really old so I need the pics big

This is a pic that really helped me in the last couple days to lay out the windshield frame. Its really incredible to think George Barris was able to customize the 66Bat from the 55 future in a three week time period.

In checking out the 1966 Batmobile its hard not to spend a little time checking out the 1955 Futura concept car. The design lines were out of this world. Some of the things that caught my eye was how the grill and bumper melted into the wide side trim going all the way to the rear bumper. I immediately thought I wanted to build a Futura but really who other than other batmobile fans would know what it is. One of the toughest feature to duplicate is the steering wheel with the speedometer in it. The steering wheel turns but the speedometer stays stationary. I went on a couple forums as I thought I had figured out a way to make it work. There were guys who have made it work and even some ancient pics of how Ford did it. The 1966 batmobile is roughly the same length as an 89 batmobile nineteen long but the wheel base is much shorter at 127" verses the 141 inches of the 89.

I initially was thinking of the donor as anything but a Ford. But many of the kits are adapted to the Lincoln Continental Town car. I guess the Barris fiberglass replicas were built on Ford Galaxy chassis. So Im guessing they must have stretched those chassis. These were just some thoughts. Thanks for looking. BWD
