  Keaton Batmobile

RE: Keaton Batmobile

Trust me, it's not 1/18. That's what I wanted because next to the BTTF Delorian and other movie cars...it would have been killer! I don't have the measurements I took handy but that car is BIG in real life. Someone get that length and divide it up by 18. The Batman and Robin Batmobile btw is even larger!!!

When the box says 1/18 it's just a classification. Take any of those Ferraris or Hot Rods, measure them and blow that up 18 times. RARELY will you get the true vehicle size. Ahhh...collector car trickery

RE: Keaton Batmobile

Dave,
How was the Batmobile promoted as a hotwheels, was there an ad????? or was it just listed as part of a series????

RE: Keaton Batmobile

There was an add but nothing special. It was just part of the 1/18 scale series hence the same box. Let me dig up the add photo.

RE: Keaton Batmobile

Dave,
Sorry, another question.... what is your opinion on the double plug front lights, should they have been more yellow than bright orange, sorry, but the pin plugs really stick out... also I have seen a modified 1/18 hotwheels that has neon lights and glow afterburner on Ebay. It was titled as the "Darkness" Batmobile.... your thoughts on this car and hotwheels batmobile modding????????

I would have loved to have got my hands on the Turbo Interceptor from The Wraith as a 1/18 Hotwheels.... nice car...

RE: Keaton Batmobile

The front headlights came out all wrong. Yes, I designed the pin attachments but the process was suposed to be like this: Molded plastic headlight...VUM (chrome) plate...transparent yellow paint spray. For one reason or another, we couldn't afford the plating and spraying but they kept the stupid pins. Duh, hello...you can see through the damn part! Plus China got the tint wrong and someone at WB ok'd it! The people that had the least amount of knowledge were the WB people. They said the headlights were orange AND they insisted for months that the body was painted GLOSS black. I had samples painted EXACTLY like the bluish/greenish original and they laughed. I fought like crazy to get that semi-fat black color and it's STILL NOT RIGHT. Oh well.

Do what I did...paint over the headlight with a yellow hobby paint. You'll sleep better

RE: Keaton Batmobile

I'm surprised that you say the finish is still not right. I saw an 89 in 1989 at a car show with the blue/green/red tints, but it was my understanding that this was only done to the show cars to make them a little more "flashy". I guess you would know better than I what the actual car looks like up close and personal, but I thought the finish on the 1/18th was accurate. I also very much like the finish on the wheels. What would you call that, gunmetal?

RE: Keaton Batmobile

Dave, you seem very reluctant to receive praise. I've got to tell you, you deserve all of our gratitude. This web site is dedicated to the Batmobile but it's all of the fans that keep it interesting. I can't thank you enough for your work bringing this car back full force. Even as much as I think I know about the car I never would have noticed the errors you have mentioned. I'll never understand how you were able to get so much detail in the 1/64th car. Your 1/18th car is one of only a handful of “toys” I am able to display in the living room. Even my wife thinks it looks great. So all that being said, DAVE IS GREAT. Please, excuse the Butt kissing....

RE: Keaton Batmobile

I'll tell you something guys, I'm always humble to the fans out there first. When I heard that we were doing Batman items at Mattel I almost passed out and I knew EXACTLY what that meant for Hot Wheels...BATMOBILES! I started my research early on the 1989 and spoke to a LOT of people out there, fans like you and me. Sure WB made a world of difference but it was a guy in England, another guy in Florida, a couple of friends back in NY...all of these people contributed in a way. Besides, usually the best design work comes from a designer that creates something first, for himself...selfishly. I was tired of looking at that 1/24 scale model kit and wanted a cool a$$ 1989 Batmobile for myself...on my shelf. As a result...you guys got one too.

Dave
p.s. plus I think it's one awesome designed car. It's anti-everything I was taught as an automotive designer...so therefore I love it!

RE: Keaton Batmobile

A true fan. That would explain why the scale cars are so awesome. I would love to see a picture of the 1/7th. Thanks again. Jack

Hey Tim - what are you using to make your photo gallery? I like the layout!

 From: Tim | Posted: 2/15/2005 12:33:24 PM |

RE: Keaton Batmobile

It' just something that's built in to PhotoShop CS. That's the first time I've ever used it.

RE: Keaton Batmobile

Thanks Tim! What I'll do is focus on one item and send as much as I can. For example, the pic of the Onstar car outside was just one of...yeah...HUNDREDS! That grey car is the hero 1989 Batmobile that was then repainted for Returns. You can see that they added the windshield wipers also. Since a lot of you are interested in creating accurate replicas, I'll fill this category first. I even took macro photos of all the textures and interior details!

Dave,
I think the feedback feature of the gallery may not work the way I thought it did. I went ahead and posted the picture here (New Topic) for your comments.

His IP definitely is from Richmond Va.

So there might be some truth.
