Tumbler Woes

Who here likes Tumbler more than Keaton car(Not the Limey )?

I'm digging tumbler more and more and at the same time losing interest in Keaton Mobile. I think too much of a good thing is a bad thing as coming here everyday and looking at keaton car in every possible angle has made me senseless and not appreciate it as much when there was not such abundance of information and pics.

I am afraid of what might happen if movie turns out really good, especially the car.

What can an ex-Keaton Car apprecianado do?

RE: Tumbler Woes

Guess better question to ask is...

"Anyone sick and tired of keaton car yet?"

RE: Tumbler Woes

My first love is/was the 89 car. It's what got me to www.dullam-causey.com. All that you see there is a result of the inspiration brought upon by the 89 car. All other batsuits including the current one, are largly inspired by the 89' suit. I can show key points, not to mention the whole rubber as body armour concept. All the batmobiles following the 89' car have various but direct influences from the 89 car. It's just evolution. example. 95'car: forward sliding canopy, beveled front end, driver close to the rear axel, low rider, ride height approx. 4", or low. even the B+R car: driver at the rear, narrow in the middle but wider towards the front. Tumbler: same waistline, Big tires in the back smaller in the front, air scoops in the back, low ride height, and exactly same wheel base as the 89 car.... IMHO all the other movie suits and cars, are just variations of basic vibe of the 89' car, and suit. I even have a picture of the panther suit being sculpted at the batshop back in 94' where in the background taped to the wall is that big poster of Keaton standing in front of the 89' car. This was thier MAIN influence, by order.

RE: Tumbler Woes

I just got done emailing jack about the Begins merchandise. I told him I would probably still get two of all the figures but not all of the other stuff because I doubt that I will ever feel the same way about this movie as I do about the '89 film. I wish I would have bought everything I could get my hands on back then. Of course I was only 19 then and didn't have any money... I figure it's just nostalgia but who knows. I will still buy all of the tumbler stuff I can find though. I really like that vehicle.

RE: Tumbler Woes

Anything new over at Dullam-Causey.com? I wish there was an easy way to know when new photos or comments have been added. I have a direct link on my desktop to the Tumbler folder which I click on several times a day so I'm not likely to miss anything there. Still wish we could see the jet exhaust housing you were working on. Also some more of the Forever car. There are a few nice ones in that AFM article.

As a matter of fact, here's a screenshot of my desktop. (yeah, I know, I'm banned...)

RE: Tumbler Woes

actually I am about to snap another shot of the tumbler progress. I got a 1 5/8" d.o.m. .128 tube bent at 360 deg. for the connection of the coil overs from the rear axel. That's also a connection of the afterburner housing, and a connection of the upper rear flaps. Big jigsaw puzzle here... One thing I've found is good in the begining (no pun)is to start slow, and spend a great deal of time studying and thinking. You (or at least I) need to know every detail in my head before really phyically pushing forward. I will be pushing hard in a week or so. Then pics will start to be more regular. the suit is an afterthought compared to this car believe me... It's an art piece. One thing that I found complelling about this car is that it's not the usual curvy elegant flowing lines we are all so used to. That's why I think the car was hard to swallow when it first appeared. I think they were going for a sort of Frank Millerish, contorted look to some extent. The diversity is what keeps this whole thing interesting.
My thoughts on the 66' car? Well, It's not my thing. Nothing wrong with it, but what allways attracted me to sci-fi in general is when it's a sort of serious look into what could be if certain conditions were present. I see the 66' car as a spoof of batman, as was Adam West was doing a comedic spoof. zip! POW! HOLY SHARK REPELLENT! etc..
What I get geeked about is making the absurd seem fathomable, and doing it with a high quality. The 95' car is a Really, really, absurd design, and then they do it anyway. So is the tumbler with no front axel, and absurdly huge tires on the back. And has anyone noticed the Matching tread pattern on the front tires? When I had my front tires mounted, the guy at the racecar store got really concerned that someone might blame him for mounting the tires in the same direction. I had to almost argue with him to mount them that way. Not kidding. But I didn't want to have to say "Batmobile" because then eyes would start rolling like mad. trust me on that....... One of the first things you get asked is...." so what car is this for?" and you go... uh, um,.. ugh,, ahh it's just a part for my buddy, ya,,, that's the ticket,, ya for my grandmother,,,, oh yea! you know how grannies are... Talk about tumbler woes....

One thing I've noticed about the DC direct stuff. Some of it in some areas not 100% screen accurate. Even though the tumbler replica is supposed to be from some computer thing, I can see various areas that are definately not exact. One in particular is the space between the outside of the front tires and the arm from the front spindle to the body. Not gona be able to turn those wheels very far.. I think what it might be is a scan from Nathan Crowleys original kit bash, then they changed it in some ways to look more like the final version. I've seen that in the 95 car as well. The translation from computer to full-size does get slightly altered for one reason or another.

RE: Tumbler Woes

Where are you getting your reference material from?

Same goes for forever mobile? Where's hte source material for all those engine pipes visible inside the ribbed exterior?

 From: Youngbat | Posted: 5/5/2005 8:47:51 AM |

RE: Tumbler Woes

The pipes you refer to under the ribs are called the "power plant" in the Revell kit, We call it the "techno babble" On the original car they were just vacuformed parts then painted. On the first fully done car that came from TFX, the Techno babble was really painted cool. looked like burnt metal(metal that at one time was glowing red hot). Not just one metal color, but Brown, blue, black and some metal gray. You never saw this in the movie because of the cobalt blue lights. Also the copies I've seen on the internet look like someone took a single color and just sprayed and done. This what I was trying to get at in another post. IMO these cars should be part typical auto stuff, and part special effects. i.e. best of both worlds. It takes multiple skill sets, and multiple mind sets.
I get my references anyway, everyway I can. Some from the internet, occassionaly from people I know out in L.A. Sometimes I have to do somethings over because I will get privy to a photo that shows me where I was wrong, and have to do the whole thing over. Good example was the 95' nose I did. Did it twice I did. I've got photos of the technobabble I did for the 95' car If I can just find them I'll put them on the site. They turned out really good. I was happy. The sculpture didn't look like a sculpture. looked like some sorta real stuff.

I'm a dumbass so i thought it was some holiday I didn't know about so I asked my co-woker what's tomorrow was.

She says it's her anniversary.

I'm surprised no one posted the icons in wrong order like this
