Comparison under the hood

I'm not all that well informed on jet turbine engines, but what would be the advantages of having one under the hood as the Batmobile does versus an ordinary stroke engine as most cars do? Other than the obvious "because it looks kool" what do you guys think?

RE: Comparison under the hood

None of the cars have turbine engines in them. They do have various aircraft components on the exterior and inside the vehicle. First off the noise of a turbine would be ear perching. Most state and local laws have noise abatement laws to prohibit such a loud noise. Being a jet aircraft mechanic myself the purchase and the cost of up keep would be prohibitive. Running a turbine engine so close to the ground would have severe FOD problems. I have seen several cars and trucks with jet J79GE-15 turbines installed. All these vehicles run on the racetracks.

RE: Comparison under the hood

Well I mean theoretically, but you've made your point clear.

RE: Comparison under the hood

What about a smaller gas turbine engine? Would that still be too loud and such?
