lets hear some idea's on the rails that the top slides on it looks like the two inside rails run level and the hood rail does all of the lift but thats from looking at pictures and any idea's on the hardware

Someone has a picture of one of Jay's cars that uses a gas shock on a pivoted front track. Maybe he'll share it.

Rusty, here you go. The side rails are actually a little lower in the back. This allows the back of the canopy to rise slightly as it goes forward. Just remember there has to be a pivot point where the rear of the canopy attaches to the linear bearings. Oh they are linear bearings on stainless steel round stock. Kevin has the part numbers. The car had 1/2" stock and bearings; I used 3/4" just so it would completely overdone and add additional weight (or it was because I guessed)....
The center rail is a whole other beast. Here are the pix that Tim was talking about. It basically another length of round stock and a linear bearing with a pivot point at the front and a gas shock to raise the track at the rear to allow the canopy to go up and then slide forward. I've not worked out how i want to do the center rail yet. I've gotten some good ideas from friends and I know Nitro has a nice set-up.
Now can I drive the General Lee down a closed road where the bridge may be out? I'm sure we can make the jump without any problems.

Those are some nice pics of your setup. The middle track seems really complicated. Why doesn't the whole thing just slide like a van door with a roller in the middle? The roller tracks would just follow the opening and dip right at the back for the seal. Of course, this is my thinking having never actually touched one.

Since Tim is closer and already has experence driving a Charger I guess he should go first. Also once I jump the dry lake bed i can't promise that it will ever be drivable again......

so in the picture with the gas shock the weight or the top makes the top shut when it rolls back what does everyone think about it rolling on the hood like the prince's car (that looks like two roller skate bearings on each side of a 1/4 flat steele with a little hanging down to keep it on track)

yes and thanks for the help im just thinking on the hood is the way to go and when i get this project going i will share to. im going to get my chassie tomorrow and in a few days maybe i will post some pics but i really want to fill a roll before i do (and maybe something to put on it in the next month if it goes right
