Ha!!!
And all the time I was worrying about my fibreglass ability, when all the time that baby is just painted polystyrene foam.
No more worrying about those speed bumps in the road either, I'll just jump out and lift that baby over the speed bumps.

It looks like Clark foam to me. Same stuff we used years ago for building intyerior modules in Ford concept cars. You can resin/ skin it and then sand it to a super glass finish. Surfboards are made this way.

I imagine molds were then pulled off the glassed foam.

Dave,
Looks like he just stuck your car in a CAD machine, and
hit "carve"!
TFX did this with thier batmobiles, once it was all designed,
they just had the computer carve the 1:1 out of foam.

Nowadays most movie cars are done this way. They build the body in 3D CAD and output into a 5 axis mill. The mill runs around over a chunk of foam (or clay) and instant car. Some finishing work and then off to molding. We received files of the Kilmer and Clooney cars but the 1989 was all hand made...no files. What we did use as a foundation was to scan in the studio scale 1989 RC Batmobile body instead. Yeah, this guy did some awesome work!

I just now read the post at the legionsofgotham board. I didn't realize that this was the "original" sculpt. I thought this was something done recently. According to Cinefex magazine the sculpt was done by someone else although it does say that it was sculpted in polystyrene foam. The name escapes me now but I posted it here somewhere and it wasn't Keith Short (according to the article). I'll see if I can find my post or I'll look it up tomorrow in Cinefex.

Here it is. The name is Eddie Butler.

Searching for Eddie Butler

Keith Short and Eddie Butler are both listed as sculptor/modelers for Batman on IMDB. They also both did work on Star Wars: Episode I.

RE: Keith Short '89 movie Batmobile sculptor pics

No kidding, way to go. I always knew there had to be pictures out there of the original sculpt, but i had pretty much given up on finding them. That's pretty much my Holy Grail, the guy who sculpted the original car. I wonder what he had to work with as far as sketches and what not. As you all probably know I am fascinated with all things fabrication. That is the only reason I haven't bought a body kit myself. I would much rather create one from scratch. Unfortunately, I'm not much of a sculptor. I can kind of get it done, but I find it very challenging. Maybe if one of the Bobs smacked me on the head really hard that might help. (Although BobC may kill me )
