A couple batmobile questions - First Post Hello, I had a batmobile question a couple weeks ago and went looking for an answer on line and found this forum. I couldn't register then but I see I can now. While looking through the forum then I also found a second question so here they are: (1) I just bought these: 
Looking at the back of the boxes they have the description backwards. They have the description of the Batman Forever batmobile on the box of the Batman and Robin batmobile and vice versa. Is that common? If it makes a difference the set I bought is the Hobby version that's black and blue and limited to 4000. (2) While looking over the site here seeing if this question had already been answered I found this:

RE: A couple batmobile questions - First Post Welcome! Yes, the description is written by a monkey sitting in front of a typewriter punching in random keys. It was actually discussed long time ago. Also the battle damaged 1:18 batmobile packaging has the Forever batmobile on the box cover. As for those small batmobiles, they're called ChoroQ Batmobile. There's also a tumbler version of that If you search for 'ChoroQ Batmobile' on the web, you will find a lot of sites selling those. How can they make a mistake that big without it getting caught before it gets to us? Do you have a link to the other thread where this was discussed? Thanks, Carl |

I'm aware of the 2003 Dream Halloween Batmobile but I've NEVER seen the lager scale one before. Where does one get one of those? Were they ever publically available? Must know more... Thanks, Carl |

RE: A couple batmobile questions - First Post So did Dave just make the 1:18 Halloween Batmobiles for himself or did Hotwheels ever sell them? Looks like he made atleast 3 of them. Same for the lighted model. Did he take the 1:18 Hotwheels Batmobile and light it and make the custom base or was that ever offered as a Hotwheels set? Thanks, Carl |

RE: A couple batmobile questions - First Post Carl, welcome to the board. You have a lot of reading to catch up on. Most of your questions can be answered in other threads. Take your time and enjoy them. After reading them you will learn a ton of info and probably have a lot more question.  DH is correct those pictures are all from our board Mattel (ex) expert.

I searched for "Dream Halloween site:www.chickslovethecar.com" and I couldn't find any info on the 1:18 scale Dream Halloween Batmobiles. I did find someone asking about "halloween dream 1:7 scales" though but no answer to that question or any basis for the question either. Hmmm... Carl |

RE: A couple batmobile questions - First Post If I remember correctly there were only 3 made. The VIPs of Mattel each kept one. This is one of those questions that only Dave can truely answer. Unfortunatlely Dave had to have surguary a couple of weeks back and is just now getting back on his feet. He will probably be back on the board once he feels better and has caught up on his work. |

RE: A couple batmobile questions - First Post Carl, Looks like I owe you a lot of answers huh? LOL. Thanks for the well wishes...I'm typing again Jack! I'll start with the first one (the grey upside down shot). That was a prototype we did (back when I was in Hot Wheels) of the 1/18 scale diecast cocoon. The idea was that you could purchase a limited edition cocoon that you could then fit over your 1/18 diecast. Similar to what AMT did with that mail-in cocoon vac-form shell. Couple of problems arose. 1. the diecast was terribly expensive and heavy and 2. it wouldn't fit into our standard 1/18 boxes at the time. Plus marketing folks thought it was boring although I was convinced collectors would order plenty to cover their 1/18ths. Never made it to production. I think the prototype is still in HK somewhere. |

RE: A couple batmobile questions - First Post The Dream Halloween 1/18 cars were made for the Mattel design VPs...yes. I worked with engineering on these and basically had the same factory that did the small ones, do the big ones. I took them home one night and hand applied the flames and decals...then clear coated. Sometime back in Xmas 2003 I think. Cost? LOL!!! I can't even imagine how much these would go for. The factory charged us a few hundred each just for their work!! AND THEY were part of Mattel!!! I think they ran some $$$$#'s but the cost for production was just too high. They looked awesome on my work bench though.

RE: A couple batmobile questions - First Post WOW!!! I'm so glad I asked the question. I was thinking that cocoon was 1:64 scale. I'd give an arm and a leg for a 1:18 scale cocoon. Oh I so which that had made it into production. From the wording of your post it sounds like a few diecast ones were made from the prototype. Is that correct? Any idea where those are if so? Was Hotwheels ever thinking about making a Batmissile in either 1:64 or 1:18 scale? That is another project that I'd have loved to seen. Also thanks for the info on the 1:18 Dream Halloween cars. So I take it that just 3 were made? I wonder what would happen if one of those VPs were ever to put theirs up on eBay. I'm sure that would be fun to watch. RE: A couple batmobile questions - First Post Yes, Tyco is located now here on the west coast INSIDE the Mattel design center. I have at home the one 1989 prototype RC we worked on in Hot Wheels. We didn't have much time to start from the beginning so we purchased a Richman's Batmobile, stripped out the mechanicals and electronics, added lot's of accurate detailing, and re-painted it. It's purpose was only to get buy-off from senior management and possibly go into production. IF it got the green light, we would have started with an all new body instead of Richman's and went from there. Well, about this time the anouncement was made that a new Batman film was in pre-production and WB told us to stop everything on the 1989 stuff and make room for the Tumbler. That's why there's no batmissle, 1989 RC, cocoon, etc. The Tyco guys for sure would have done an 89 but the big WB makes the final call on what they want to promote at the time and that's why you have now a 1/6 and jumping tumbler. |

RE: A couple batmobile questions - First Post Carl, The 1/18 diecast cocoon never made it past that resin prototype model. engineering estimates told us how much it would weigh, cost, etc. It was shelved before any molds or tools were made. I wouldn't count out the batmissle and other 1989 stuff. Basically the fever needs to die down a bit over Batman Begins and I'm sure they'll go back to the "collector" Batman vehicles. BUT, if they announce a Batman Begins sequel, all resources will again go towards that film's vehicles. Frustrating? Sometimes if you're a 1989 fan

RE: A couple batmobile questions - First Post "Both poorly modeled, although the jumping feature is pretty dang cool." Yup, it sucks big time. With no fan watching over this stuff...this is what happens. I've already torn apart the action figure and 1/6 model for accurate re-building.
