Component Donations VS: Self Reliance

Hey Bat-Gang, I am considering asking a local metal supply place for a donation of the 13" X 13" X 1" Aluminum slab I will need to make the Bat-Symbol Steering wheel.

I am wondering though......... at what cost in other ways would there be?

I hate the idea of having a sponsors logo on the little bill-board I will set up next to the car when it is at charity events, but to be honest this beast is eating up all my money, perhaps I should just slow down the building of the car, in order to not need any outside help?

The fiberglass will be my greatest expense, as Im sure I'm looking at perhaps $2,000.oo as a rough guess for materials alone, and thats just an estimate !

Ideas, suggestions?

Thanks....

Is this the type of wheel you are going to make?

I've been thinking of selling mine.

I don't know really, but I'm sure you are familiar with the whole "WB situation". I don't think there is any problem with someone building themselves a replica, especially when it's from scratch. However, once you move into the arena of having sponsors, making money or going "public" in any way, you could be on shaky ground. You may be fine legally, but if WB doesn't like what you are doing or the attention you're creating then they could cause you trouble if they want to. That may only be in the form of a C&D letter asking you to turn over you vehicle and any proceeds you have gained. That would suck, because unless you are prepared fight WB what are you going to do?

I don't mean to scare you, personally, I think you're fine. I also think I'm fine and Dullam/Causey is fine. I also think they other guys on this board building cars are fine. I'm not so sure the guys selling kits are fine, but so far they seem to have been... but I don't know much about what they have experienced. Batgod/Paul or Mark would be the ones to ask about that.

I guess I'd be better off saving another hundred up for a blank of aluminum to make my own wheel. Sponsors usually suck anyway from what a friend who races stock cars told me.

Thanks for the input !

Sincerely,
Bill W.
