Mark Towle

Mark,

I am new to this and still doing my homework. I am trying to asertain how much frame work I would need to do using a Chevy Caprice/Impala donor. If I decide to go ahead with this I am seriously considering using your body for this project and certainly would not waste your valuable time. If you would be so kind,

I would like you to provide the basic measurements of the body you produce?

Overall length, from tip of nose to tip of fin?
Wheelbase, center of hub to hub?
Front width, outside fender wall to fender wall?
Rear Width, outside fender wall to fender wall?

Does the Caparice/Impala donor frame need to be widened to accomidate your body? (I understand it wiill need to be lengthened) If so, to what measurements? Front and rear.

Does the body you produce use the same basic measurements as the blueprints found else where on this site ? I am attempting to learn how close the blueprints are to your body and how much I should rely on them.

The blueprints on this site use the following measurements.

Over all length, nose to fin: 236.25

Wheelbase, center of wheel hub to hub: 139.75 inches

Front Width, outside fender to fender wall: 95.25inches
Rear Width, outside fender to fender wall: 92.50 inches

Thank you in advance for your time and help.

Peter

Hi.....EM .....Peter. This site is devoted to the building of the 89 by the guys/fan's who aspire to own an 89. The majority of the guys here have put in the time and effort to gain everyoneleses trust and respect. The fact that you jumped in here asking Mark, and only Mark, for the dimentions of his kit and the lay-out of the chassis with the hope of buying one of his kits is, to my experience, condesending to DH and the rest of the guys here. If you wanna know about the dimentions and all the other information of the 89, do what everyone else here has done and start from the start.

Hey Dee???

Actually... I'm cool with it myself.

Been answering questions for years for other people's sales. I'm TOTALLY cool with someone else answering the questions for a change.

RE: Mark Towle

I would agree with Rusty, untill Mark started saying that there were 2 sizes of cars his and all of the rest? Not sure if that was the seperation, but I do know he stated the 89 and the 92 versions were different sizes. People posted asking for some sort of proof, as the onstar car is widely recognized as the car used in both movies 89 and 92.
Also on the bat disks they state that using the same batmobile saved a lot of money, even though they wanted to design a new batmobile for the 92 film. But to save money they just took it out of storage and used it again. I doubt they built a smaller similar car.
(Boy they could have saved a lot of money and just used it for all 4, but then toys r us would lose a lot of money!)
So I think that may have something to do with Peter asking for his dimensions.
When you were working on the rear of your car, you mentioned that it looked shorter than the original build photos so maybe Marks are shorter than the kits that came from Jay/bobs molds?

Now that you have it mounted, post the measurements and Kevin or someone with their car in the garage can post comparison measurements.

I can do it but as my car isn't on the frame yet and harder for me to get to, it will just take a while before I can post accurate numbers.

Detective work isn't as exciting as rippin around in the batmobile, but
it solves the mysteries!

I guess it's okay if Mark's is a little shorter. I'm sure it can still get the job done and many people believe that size doesn't matter anyway.

RE: Mark Towle

On differences between the 89 & 92's.
I think I remember (gotta watch the special features again soon) that on the Batdiscs (DVDs) they said that when the car was shipped to the USA from England they had to "strip it down & rebuild it" or adapt it, from UK to USA parts to make it more usable or something like that. I believe thats when the car 'changed' (other than the windshield wipers & clown-trippers). There are at least a few "screen used" cars around, we havn't identified. WHOLE cars, not cutaways or cockpit area only. Didn't they say 2 were made for the 89 movie & another 7 for the 92 returns. That's 9 frigging cars around someplace!!!! Are we saying that WB has them all? Then who's to say whats being (been) moulded from who's body?
For example, it's strange that when I started posting that I would take pics of the car @ COTS in Edinburgh, it mysteriously dissappears into "storage". They close the whole place down. End of story.
I think this might be the "turntable" car, adapted from 89 for the 92 movie (Never left England ???? ).

Any comments?

This is probably a daft question but is the Scooby Doo Mystery Van modeled off an actual make and model of van.

RE: Mark Towle

I know a guy that made a pretty awesome one with a 60's dodge van. It was PERFECT. The guy got hammered and decided to paint his van up since it was about to rust away.

Pretty cool.
