fiberglass or metal for the gotham cruiser?

taking into consideration that the stronger the better, to make the mold and work with the fiberglass with the proper procedures might be lots of work, on the other hand working with metal sheets would require more skills and dedication because of modeling the shapes won't be that easy. My questions are: which one would be safer to drive the car with the fiberglass on or the one made out of metal? also which one would be finished first, meaning less time to get it done?

I'm sure Mark will weigh is, as he uses both methods to build cars. Metal would be stronger and safer in the long run. Which would be faster to build depends on the skills of the builder and the techniques employed. Both methods, if building a one off, COULD bothe take the same amount of time. If one were to build multiples, 'glass would be faster, as you would have master molds to work with. An all metal car would be cool, but would it be to heavy? Also, the builder would need some talent with an Enlish wheel and hammer to get alot of the curves. back to old school coach building....

Which cars has Mark built that are metal? The only ones I know of to be metal were built by Barris (actually Lincoln), the #5 guy, and Don. Oh, and Tim B. made his Opel GT Batmobile out of metal.

I'm just guessing the metal car would be extremely heavier

I thought it was 'glass at first, since it uses some styling ques from another car he builds, but was corrected. He used to have build up pics on his site, I believe.

I originally thought of this because i have this crazy idia of making the same two parts the guys made with fiberglass molds with aluminium covered with a metal sheet to be placed on the metal re-enforced chasis but i am still working the designs to build it first in a software called solid works that simulates real building of any piece of mechanics, if by the end of december it does not work properly, i'll think of any other way to combine the fiberglass with some metal

Actually, that's Jeff's car in the foreground...the metal one.
I think it's personal choice, but I'm glad to be gettingsome metal to put between myself and the looky-loos who'll be following me around.
And who is this Jeff guy?
I prefer Brin.

For what its worth..........

Although I am NOT an auto body guy. I have worked with ALOT of metal, and Aluminum in my 21 years in my medical profession.

Aluminum can be a BEAR to weld, and form without cracking it unless you haver the correct equipment, and even WITH the rite stuff... you'd better be one talented puppy to try it with any large pieces.

Fiberglass is more forgiving for those of us whom have good hand skills, but lack a gtreat workshop at home.
