Question: Jacks Super Awesome 89 Dash

Jack,

I had a question or two about your new dash. Did you use the pdf that is located on CLTC (89 batdash.pdf) or did you use another template to create your dash?

I'm going to start building my dash (you have to start some where) using the pdf template blown up to 1:1 scale. Will this work, or am I shooting myself in the foot for starting this without a body???

I'm going to start collecting parts and building what I can now, then hopefully start on the body later on. The dash seems like a fun project to start on.

I would start out with a gallon of 30 weight and a set of ball bearings ...

I sent Jack a template of my dash and he modified it to fit his car.

Kevin,

If I'm not mistaken you used the .pdf template blown up to scale, correct?

I transferred the PDF file to acetate and blew it up on the over head projector using the same aircraft gauge they used till I got the size right. Then I outlined on a piece of card board and transferred it to sheet metal.
One of these days I need to pull a mold of the dash.
<---- Jack could have done it without my help!

Hey is it my turn to answer? The upper panel was off of my original try witch I latter scrapped. I used the pattern Kevin was nice enough to send me and then modified it like Kevin said to meet my needs. Is it correct? I doubt it, I think the center section must have been wider to fit those huge gauges and the area where the TV goes is all wrong. Does it make a nice dash? Well i think it came out pretty nice. It really all depends on what you want. If someone like Dave could give us his pattern then we could nail it down and be exact. Until then Iíll live with mine. If you want the pattern that I finally used shoot me a PM and I'll try to send it to you. Thanks for the compliments.

Oh the top panel I cut with a high speed cut off and rolled it in a roller. The main panel I had made by my local sheet metal shop (Tin Binders). All of the holes and such were done with a drill. Waterjet? I wish.
