Hi smac009
Thank you very much for your reply of course I didn't know the exact details about fiberglass. I was just commenting on you if you were to use aircraft grade aluminum sheeting that would be anywhere from a half inch to three-quarter inch thick. I don't know about crumple zones very well. Since the type of aluminum is used in the aircraft industry I didn't know if it could withstand or hold up to the usage of building a carbody out of it. If anyone could make stamping plates for steel for the panels of the tumbler as a kit body that you could purchase would make $1 million easily especially from people like us who want to build there own versions. Again thank you for your response and I hope to hear more from you and other members on this topic of discussion. Oh and to shaggy I wonder what his thoughts were on this also . He does great work and hope to see his build one day when he finishes.

Hi Shaggy,
Of all the builds I have seen yours I believe is extremely close in actual fact to the real deal. I was fortunate enough to get up close and personal to a tumbler here in Australia when they were on Tour for the Dark Knight Rises. A few hints to help the frames are made of 2" (50mm) chrome moly tube similar to the frames in NASCAR Car of the future vehicles. It has racing style mufflers producing just enough back pressure to make the engine fire. It is a V8 Chevy big block crate engine. The top is built so the engine and gearbox can be removed quickly if needed with the removal of a few bolts thru the roof.
I hope this helps everyone with a bit more info as I know Warner Brothers haven't been great in letting out design info.
Shaggy your frame designs are looking great and would be a good reference for others.
Cheers from Oz
Andrew

HI guys just started reading this forum yesterday, and man Shaggy you are amazing, the accuracy is just brilliant, just a question how did you manage to make the engine in reverse, so the tires aren't connected to each other?
Kind Regards
I love the Tumbler

I blame Mr A for making me post this WAAAAAAY ahead of when I had plans to do so. He totally...ya know...broke into my house....put me in a headlock....made me do it. No arguing the facts.
So my son is always seeing me work on Batmobile stuff, and he finally came up to me and said, "daddy, i would really like to do a daddy-son project with you, could we build a batmobile together?" ...Of course I couldnt say no. No matter how much I've on my plate. So we talked, and talked, and finally agreed that it would easiest, and the coolest to build a Studio Scale Tumbler, just like the one used in the most recent batman movies for the rooftop scene and the garbage truck scene.
A video of what I'm talking about can be seen here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZ6kb3_A7rI
So yeah, here's some photo's. It completely conflicts with the title of this build log "1/2 & 1/6 scale" since this is a 1/3rd scale model. But hey....you know its awesome.
This is what we are aiming for:
And this is what we have done so far:
There is so much to get done, I've even gotten my cat involved....he's taking a break in this photo.
Now this part I thought I screwed up. It wasnt fitting correctly, and it was too small. Turns out, I printed a template from an earlier version of the Tumbler I made. I hate when I do that. So I had to toss that part, find the correct file, and rebuild it again.
Outside to get resin coated to harden it up for sanding.
Thats all for now.

That's so Awesome!!!!!
The Highest Of Distinctions Is Service To Others
If you can contribute to others, no matter how small your talent, you too can become successful. The measure of anyone is the number of people that they serve.
Service to others is the essence of success. No one achieves success without being of service. All great men and women became successful because they gave some talent or ability in the service of others.

Sorry for the head-lock
I should have known you would have had this covered already. Thanks for sharing the progress pics.

Figured it was time for me to add some more pics. We decided to not go with the resin just yet, so I scrapped the first Tumbler I built, and built a second one, kinda glad I did this, because the second one turned out twice as good.
Anyway, here is some more photos.
