Hey guys! First off, let me say I don't appreciate all the information feeding my obsession. I have other stuff to do than to dream about someday in the next 5 years starting a Tumbler build. And all the info here leads me to believe it's doable...which furthers my obsession. Could someone please just tell me it's inconcievable and I should just walk away?!?!
If I build, it would be based on the Tumbler, but I would not be shooting for replica, or near replica...it would be Tumbler "Inspired".
Sooo: Does it seem realistic to think one could start a Tumbler like project with a v-8, mid-engine sandrail? I was thinking 4 seater. But the first obstacle seems like dual rear wheels mounted on the IRS instead of a solid axle. Then, would 600 lbs of tires cause parts to shred, or since it's just rolling weight maybe not?
At least if you started with this you could already have a VIN, frame, tranny, seats, steering, brakes.
I hope this doesn't seem to juvenile or like I'm trying to cut too many corners...but it's gotta work for me in my life. I just hope it's ok to be "Tumbler" inspired for this site and not a replica.
Nathan

Welcome Nathan. You should look up pictures of Big Wave Dave's build. His was built on similar basis. It was meant to be something he could thrash at the sand dunes, was built as a 4 seater, has a huge V8, and most of all, is only Tumbler inspired, not completely accurate to the movie.
I think anything is possible, like American's embracing soccer, so yeah, go for it!

Thanks! I've watched most of his Youtube and read some of the threads. I'm still too new to view his whole build log. I appreciate the direction though! This site has great resources. And your details that I've seen are amazing.
