I have been thinking about this for a while I am thinking of putting a power step under my car that folds up when canopy is closed and folds down when canopy is open.  The new Ford trucks have them . I found a web site that sells almost the same thing.Electric Step SpacerElectric Step SpacerElectric Step SpacerElectric Step SpacerElectric Step SpacerThe AMP Research LED Light Kit is engineered with four (4) low profile LED lights and are strategically placed under the rocker panel for broad coverage and reliability in extreme driving conditions. When doors open, the running boards are illuminated. While doors are open the lights stay lit for a full five minutes, allowing plenty of time for entry or exit. When doors close, the lights turn off automatically when the steps retract.Arguably the best step assist solution on the market today, the AMP Research Power Step, a full-length, power-deploying running board is now available for these truly capable trucks. It is activated by your truck’s factory door sensors and extends within a few seconds when you open the door.No other running board, tube step or nerf bar can match the ease of entry of the AMP RESEARCH Power Step. Open the door and this full-length running board automatically deploys for easy stepping in and out of the cab. Close the doors and this sure-footed step platform retracts safely under the truck with no loss of ground clearance. The AMP Research BedStep™ easily deploys and retracts with one simple nudge of your foot providing easy access to the truck’s cargo bed – tailgate open or closed. Stows conveniently under the rear bumper leaving the hitch reciever free for towing or hitch-mounted accessories. The BedStep is HANDS-FREE OPERATION

Rusty do I have to get out the pics and show everyone  that it may say 5 foot 11 on your drivers license but it is really closer to 5 foot 7.

Yes I know its not that far from the intake step to the top of the step next to the canopy. I am trying to make this user friendly and when you have an extra step your more balanced and able to step in the car more easily. I do know the first thing you want to do when you step in the car is grab the actuator in the middle of the car for balance and that is going to be a real problem. The actuator is not that tough and would probable bend pretty easy. I think Rusty and Jack avoided a lot of headache by putting theirs  on each side of the rollers down in the cockpit.I would also like to put a hidden step in side the cockpit that folds down so your not always stepping on the seats.I think I will need to  to seek the wisdom of Shaggy or Bigwave for their thoughts and designs on that or anyone else that would like to comment, would be very much appreciated.
