As the description says, I want to start making the Bat arsenal as seen in Batman Begins and TDK. Starting with the new Batsuit. ive cut very rough templates out of foamboard and am stuck on the chest pieces. to make them out of steel which is my preferred material i'll have to dish them quite a bit. Does anyone have experience with this. Im working with mostly 18 and 16 ga steel.

| not to sure if this helps but i have seen a metal hammering kit with a smoother in it at Harbor Frieght Tools i want to say it was around $30 or $40 for it but dont quote me on that. other than that its just taking the shoes and setting them on a hard surface then hamering it till to have the desiered shape. i have done it to some degree in my meatl shops and art classes back in high school but it is very time consuming to get it the way you want. i would also recomend to get an angle grinder to shave of the rest of the metal since it will strech. then take a flapper wheel sander to it to soothe it out and you should be good hope it helps Drew

Thanks Jinto, I just have no idea where to start haha. I'm going to start off with 26 ga for all the parts and see how it works out.

yeah, at least ill be able to use hand shears instead of breaking out the plasma cutter

| yeha that is good cause if you turn up the plasma cutter to high cant it blow though the metal ( i dont know ive never used plasma ive only used stick and mig)

yeah, i dont have a high end one. its a hobart airforce something, no settings just pull the trigger and steel melts. its rated up to 1/4". I made a batarang out of 16 ga and i cut the outline in about 6 sec.

| just a thought for you... Since you have the foam templates cut. You could easily cover if you have used polyurethane foam vs styrene ( foam ): with a pre preg Kevlar weave with resin. You then can make an vacume bag with a shop vac and plywood to get really good finish with out sanding. This would save you time, wieght for your suit and in theory be screen accurate a lot easier vs shaping .050 to .070 steel Whish would take english roller for shape and some heat to get the contoured edges. Bottom line faster lighter and same or less money.
