Hey there DH, you are looking for other Bat car polls, huh? Here are two from seperate times.

(Keep in mind when reading the second one, it got kind of out of hand. I was also alot more agumentative back then, it was when I was still building my ill fated polyurethane / fiberglass bat. I considered myself smarter than I really am. I have since been humbled.) :) Oh, and I hope to start on my SECOND attempt soon!!!!!

HA HA! No, that wasn't me. Guess I'm not the only one though...

See you need the "new post" icons. I just now noticed that there were new posts in here. (I seem to have started looking over the sticky posts)

RE: Batmobile Pictures Only Thread

Justin,
Any pics of your first "ill fated" attempt? We could learn from your mistakes...

RE: Batmobile Pictures Only Thread

I will dig and see what I can find. Should have a few more left on my girlfriend's camera. I WILL tell you what I learned the hard way:

a. Draw out your ideas before you get started. INCLUDE AT LEAST ROUGH SPECS! Do not try to eyball everything.

b. Polystyrene is easily dissolved by fiberglass resin. Polyurethane is much more expensive than polystyrene, but it is safer to use with resin.

c. PLAN where to put the plywood formers before you get started. You will probably end up having to go back and cut them out later if you want any leg room.

To be honest, I did not get as far as I would have liked. I have changed my approach in several ways - for one, I am not planning on leaving the plywood formers in this time. I have learned the beauty of carving a buck first, then removing it. :-P

RE: Batmobile Pictures Only Thread

As far as the Polystyrene, couldn't you just hit it with some latex paint like mentioned in the "Fiberglass Fabrication" thread? Also, is Polystyrene the home improvement insulation foam stuff? I may try to use some of that soon when I start the dash for my KITT. Just FYI, the green floral foam will stand up to resin and is pretty dense so it can take details pretty well. Not sure if I'd try to make a Batmobile out of it, but it could be feasible for some smaller detail parts or something. Let's see some pics if you can find them!

RE: Batmobile Pictures Only Thread

Yeah, I since learned that Polystyrene needs to be coviered in drywall mud or something to protect it from the resin.

"Batmobile Pictures Only Thread"
These should be moved to a different post...

but, to answer Mauls question... Yes, Polystyrene is the home insulation stuff. I use the blue foam it is a little more dense than the pink. Plus a blue batmobile is bad enough. To see what I've done with the blue foam go to the go-cart section of my site www.1989batmobile.com

RE: Batmobile Pictures Only Thread

No it wasn't. It was 4 months ago...

It's warming up and I'm ready to start working again. I actually worked on it a bit yesterday. I just haven't updated the log. Not much to see really just sanding the foam into shape, rounding corners and stuff. I need to make the side intakes next.

RE: Batmobile Pictures Only Thread

Sorry about that, I just get a little excited when talking about Batmobiles. I'm definitely familiar with your project Tim, I just didn't put it together that was the foam. Keep up the great work! I can't wait to start on one sometime, but I've got to finish KITT first. To make up, here's a pic of the "trunk release" method of opening the canopy from outside the car.

Sorry it's a little blurry.

The cobblepot Batmobile.

Now that guy should not be in charge of a Batmobile, just the kind of thing that DC and Warners wish to avoid.
