What does it take to do a fiberglass body
I was wondering what it takes to build a custom fiberglass body. I am a big "Dukes of Hazzard" fan and I was wanting to build a fiberglass replica of a Dodge Charger to put a 4x4 suspension under. I posted this question on a "Dukes" website and all I got was people telling me its not possible to build a custom fiberglass car thats drivable. Being a follower of the kit car industry and having a father who owns a Corvette I of course know it is possible. I figured I would ask a bunch of guys who build fiberglass cars for some help.
Thanks

RE: What does it take to do a fiberglass body
Well, here's the basics...
First, you need a plug. Either an actual Dodge Charger or you need to sculpt one yourself. Second, create a mold of the plug. Third, create the finished part from the mold.
Those are just the basic steps of course. There is a lot more to it than that. I've been around fiberglass for years in the marine industry and I've read everything I can find and now I am doing a go-cart body as a means to learn and get some experience with the process. I have a build log on my website: www.1989batmobile.com. Click on "Go-Cart Project".
