How safe is the sliding canopy

How safe is the sliding canopy

If heaven forbid you get into an accident with ur batmobile, woulnd't sliding canopy have more chance of getting jammed than the average vehicle?

Also the windshield look pretty slim for someone like me to get out in case of a jam.

RE: How safe is the sliding canopy

you are right, thats why on mine the inside has a relased latch on both sides of the canopy, incase it wont open, and if the car flips over, i do have a back door i can get out though. after all safty first right.

The more I hear about your batmobile, the more I think it'll be the ultimate ride.

So when can we see some pics?
(I saw the scale model on your site but when can we see a full sized one?)

RE: How safe is the sliding canopy

soon as the 1/4th is built and im sure on all my measmernts im gonna start building the full scale, im hoping to start on her in jan, while ive been building the 1/4th ive been drawing up plans for ever other part of the batmobile, and wokring out technical issues, so when the full scale body is done, ill have her ready to go in no time. but you can excpet to start seeing pics of the full scale car starting to be built in jan end of jan at the latest.

I never thought of sliding canopy being a concern but I can see that if the car were to flip over, then you can kiss your bat-bottom good bye.

RE: How safe is the sliding canopy

All the cars Ive seen, six flag cars as well ,if the car was to turn over it would mostly just fall of, it sits in tracks, and stays in place by gravity, it would only stay connected by the pushrod, but you could still get out

RE: How safe is the sliding canopy

yes but note the six flags batmobile are not street legal, when street legal it cant be held down by gravity, anyone thinking of building a batmobile and making it street legal really should consider the quick relase latch on the canopy and a second exit, like the trunk. as silly as it sounds at first the chances of getting in a car wreck while driving the batmobile is greater then a reg car, (hence why a lot of innsurance companys wont normaly insure cars like the batmobile unless under a spsical policy) theres 2 main factors that make the batmobile a greater acident risk, one is the size, most roads are about 9 feet wide the batmobile is a little shorter then 8 (its really around 7 feet 10 inches) feet wide giving you about a little more then 6 feet cleance each side, there trucks and cars out on the road with the around the same width, so thats not to big of a prob if ur used to driving something that big, the other reason and prob the biggest, is its a attention graber, thats one of the reasons why we all want it, we want the badest car on the road, prob with eveone starts to look at you and theres some crappy drivers out there that just cant pay attention to your car and the road. hence more accdents. hence the reasons for extra safty in the batmobile when making it street legal.

now im gonna go eat lunch, sand part of my batmobile again, work on the functional bat belt a little and then take nap, lol

RE: How safe is the sliding canopy

I've not seen any cars with canopies that were just laid in tracks. If you have pictures of this I would like to see them. Every car I've seen has had the canopy attached with linear bearings.

RE: How safe is the sliding canopy

The linear ball bearing are shown in all the batmobiles from Returns.

If you ever get a chance to see the first movie, u'll see no linear ball bearing. Also, u wont' see any windshield wiper.

I know that the first one had to be customized a little due to Keaton's mask ears getting caught when the canopy closes.
