1989 Batmobile kit car WHERE?

I know W/B is a big pain but. If some one would desire a kit ( unbuilt)of the 89 Bats where would one ask? Who made kits to sell to the public in the past befor W/B became a big pain? Also is it better to wait for the W/B paten to run out in the next year or two? P/S Cool web site!

RE: 1989 Batmobile kit car WHERE?

From anonymous source:

"WB has ALWAYS been a "pain in the butt" with these cars. They have the right to be. The patent will NEVER run out as WB's lawyers are VERY smart and license the image to another project whenever the last patent comes due. Can anyone say "1/18th scale HOTWHEELS". Keep dreaming, the patent's NOT going to expire as long as the desire is still there. WB's lawyers spend an unusual amount of time researching rumours of "kits" being built, sometimes posing as Magazine writers, photo journalists, and even the occaisional Wal-Mart employee who's "just a fan", to attempt to contact builders. The only luck they've had is when builders turn on each other in competition. Ocaisionally, a builder will slip up and WB is more than happy to crush a few molds now an then or grab a car. "Can you say HARD COPY 1996?" But this is rare as builders are skiddish about the car. One builder tossed his molds in a junk yard (don't grab your coat and hat just yet, they were purchased already) rather than sell them because of the legal difficulties associated with the new owners "turning him in". One car owner even purchased a set of molds to keep additional replicas from being produced. It is not an easy car to obtain, it's not an Import Honda, so setting out to build the car cheap is most likely going to keep you searching for quite some time. Start by putting 10K in cash in your back pocket. Chase down some rumors yourself and get on a plane and go visit these guys in person. Chances are they'll talk to you much more freely than on the phone or email. (Hey... one guy back East will even scan you and have you searched for a wire before talking. That's the level of paranoia that WB has created in NYC)"

Well they do any thing after you have the car built. Can they take away you bat mobile. That would suck. I think it would be cool to have one. But It looks like it might be a pain.

RE: 1989 Batmobile kit car WHERE?

Yes, WB has the best lawyers BUT, the car was designed and patented by the late Anton Furst.

AS with Mr Barris, the Patent Rights have to be APPLIED for by the Originator,in this case, Mr Furst's survivors...
Considering the reasons behind the loss of thier loved one .. And the fact that, the WB legal team has a new car to defend, the PATENT is due to expire late this year.

Look for the Kits/Cars to be more available next year.
