RE: Hot Wheels 1/18th Tumbler

I had "checked a box" on the eHobbies website to be notified when the Tumblers were in stock back in June. I received an email on July 2nd that they had arrived. I placed the order on July 4th, and got it on the 11th!
If you *really* want one, I've seen them at Monstersinmotion.com, but they're charging $40!! I have ordered stuff from them before and had decent service, but there is no way I'd pay that much for this thing.

RE: Hot Wheels 1/18th Tumbler

I just recieved the 2 Tumblers I ordered from ehobbies.com. I placed the order around July 6 and they arrived the 12th. They sent me an email when they were available so I ordered 2 at that time. Just click the link to be notified when they become available on the ehobbies.com website. They have always been real good about that letting me know when items arrive.
There have been some on ebay but they are going for $50 and up!

Best deal I've found is there, except... they won't ship that product to Canada...
You can imagine how frustrated I am by this...

I thought they shipped international.
There's link for international on the right top tab.

BTW, it's out of stock again!

RE: Hot Wheels 1/18th Tumbler

They do ship internationally, but not /that/ specific product. I went that route, and found a problem with the scripting - it couldn't provide a landed cost. I simply emailed them directly to find out what was up. That's when I got the reply; customs restrictions keep them from shipping that product here.
So, I'm out of luck, at least, until they begin finally showing up here in Canada, or I find someone in the US that will sell me one directly.

BTW - in following up, now that I actually have one of these:
Are we meant to cut/remove the clear elastic that keeps tension on the canopy when opening?
Seems that it makes it difficult to open it further... but I'm also wondering if this is the only thing making it easier to get it closed back up properly.
Any suggestions appreciated - no details in with the car.

This will look nice along with my '89...

And, eventually... Camo version. =]

RE: Hot Wheels 1/18th Tumbler

Steve,

"The model comes with a "rubber band" that keeps tension on the piece where the windsheild is. I cut the rubber band thinking it was keeping the pieces from sliding back further. It doesn't. Not sure I'd recommend cutting the band, even though it does look bad!"

thats quoted from someone on the second page of this thread, so id say its your call as far as that goes.

RE: Hot Wheels 1/18th Tumbler

Thanks for re-pointing that out.
I did see that earlier in the thread - at this point, though, with more of them in the hands of the masses, I'd hoped there might be a little more insight available.

OT - is your user name a pick reference? If not, ignore the following...
=]
/If/ this is so, then my equivalent would, up until a couple of days ago, be Dunlop Tortex 1.14 mm.
Right now, I'm experimenting with something new to me, Clayton 1.00mm with a shark design in sand/similar for grip...

And to follow up - removing the clear elastic makes the whole canopy much easier to move, and of course it stays open better... but closing it is a bit of a job without that forward pulling tension bringing the nose back into position again.

It looks like you could just unhook it from the underside, but I haven't tried it yet. This model is f'd up. I definately won't be buying anymore of these. I wish my 1/35th would arrive.

RE: Hot Wheels 1/18th Tumbler

Yes - it unhooks from there, and pulls right through. If I worked at it, I could reattach it, but instead, I've got the car sealed in a display case...
The 1/35th - you're referring to the Bandai model kit. Remarkable detail, especially for the small scale.
That one really seems to be the most accurate, all-in-all.

RE: Hot Wheels 1/18th Tumbler

Captain newbie lurker here, so greetings and salutations all.

Two questions. One, do you think I should pick up the current Hotwheels 1:18 Tumbler, or will there be a running change with a later release version being more accurate in terms of paint/detailing do you think?

Second, anyone got a quick paint guide to what should be done to make this hotwheels 1:18 match up to Batman's film version more accurately?

Many thanks, stay cool.

Sev.

RE: Hot Wheels 1/18th Tumbler

Greets.
There might be someone here much more in-the-know about the possibility of major changes to the run of 1:18 Tumblers, but my suspicion is that not much if anything will change.

For accurizing, there is a plethora of pictures available here to help correct the paint.
The most difficult thing to attempt, I'd say, would be to change the brass-coloured rear wheel rims to silver chrome...
The armour-linking 'pistons' would need changing, too; just the 'moving' shafts should be silver in colour; the sleeves should be black.
The rear-most vectoring flaps should have the brass colour added to the antenna housings at the outer-most edges...
I think it might be over-all a bit too glossy, also...

That's the broad strokes of the paint correction, though...

I'm looking forward to the up-coming desert-camo version I'd pointed out in an earlier post.

RE: Hot Wheels 1/18th Tumbler

A question for anyone who might already know:
Is there a simple way (besides breaking it... =]) to get the front wheels off of the 1:18 Hotwheels Tumbler?
... or are they 'barb' plugged on there?

Thanks.

RE: Hot Wheels 1/18th Tumbler

A bit of a main step in trying to bring some more accuracy to the 1:18 Tumbler, and my biggest issue with it; the over-sized front wheels.
Did an experiment - although the tread isn't right, there's a certain 'rightness' to what's shown here.

1st: overhead shot of unmodified and modified Hot Wheels 1:18 Tumblers.
2nd: front 3/4 shot of modified version
3rd: side shot of modified version

There are plenty of shots available of the stock version to compare... shot 1 helps, though, having them right beside one-another.

So, I wanted to see if my calculations were about right... but needed a rubber 'skin' to put on there, so I checked a hobby store to see what they might have in the way of tires.
The /only/ thing they had that would fit and look /roughly/ correct, but I figured would give me an idea of whether I was on the right track or not, was a set of smaller scale Super Swampers - not correct, but ironic, no?

Anyway, to me it looks MUCH better with the reduced front tires, even with the non-Hoosier treads on there... and if it troubles me that much, I'll sculpt them with the right treads. This helps for now.
At least it looks like, if there was a working steering mechanism, there'd be room for the wheels to actually turn... =]

... for anyone who cares, I can post a pic or two of the interior; it's pretty elaborately detailed for something that'll remain largely unseen, especially owing to the barely-opening cockpit...

Interior shots of Hot Wheels 1:18 Tumbler.
Had to be very much disassembled for these shots, as is apparent from the pics.

There we have it - reduced to 800 x 600.
