RE: LOSING MY MIND!!! LOL

Jon one of the things you can gain by using a Caprice is that Nitro and Kevin will have both figured out what works and what doesn't. You can get them pretty cheap too. I think Kevin only paid a few hundred bucks for his. You can simple copy what they did. That was one of the reasons I went with the 72 Impala chassis, I figured I could just copy the car that I saw in Tallahassee. It hasn't quite worked out that well though.

RE: LOSING MY MIND!!! LOL

Found out they made a Caprice coupe in 80-83. If I were to find one of those would I still need to move seats and firewall and such. Trying to find something that will require as little moving around of the interior as possible. I plan on customizing the interior, but I don't have anyone that can move the firewall back and weld the seats in new spots. Plus wouldn't you have to redo all the wiring and steering column if you move around the firewall? Looks like with the steering column it would have to be moved way back and that seems harder then anything else. So question becomes: If I were to find a caprice coupe by some miracle, would I still have to move the firewall and move seats around? The few pictures I've seen looks like seats are already far enough back.

RE: LOSING MY MIND!!! LOL

If anyone knows where to get a 80-83 caprice coupe let me know. lol. I want to do the bodywork myself instead of buying a kit. Just hard to call it mine if I'm going to have to have someone else mount the engine, extend the frame, AND make body for me. At least if I do body work then its mine. Not that I don't think you guys' cars rock. I just want to do this myself, but thanks for offering.

RE: LOSING MY MIND!!! LOL

Jon, you might as well get ready for a lot of relocating and a lot of welding. I suggest you go buy a mig welder and start learning. Mig welders are pretty simple and easy to learn. Again it's no easy take. I've been working on the exhaust tips for a week now and only have 1 half way finished.

Don't let this scare you off either but some of the parts you will need are very expensive in my book. The 4 taillights will set you back around $600, $800 for the machine guns, $1000 for the wheels, $1500 for a new engine, $400 for a new transmission, $200 for a radiator, and so much more.

RE: LOSING MY MIND!!! LOL

I don't plan on having machine guns in mine. I also plan to put the smallest windshield wipers possible in top of hatch window and give the hatch somewhat of an eyebrow look... try to imagine an angry car, so that you can't see wiper's if I'm not using them. I do plan on spending around $3000 for new 350 to drop in, and I guess another $1500 for new transmission. What would you guys think it would cost to have someone do the firewall, seat move, and frame lengthening? I might just pay someone to do all the mechanical aspect and me do the interior and body and lights and other small items. Any clue on prices? I figure it would cost about $5000 in resin and fiber... is that somewhere close? Any guesses on getting someone else to handle the frame work and moving seats around if I just go with normal cheap (easier to find I learning) 4 door caprice?

$600 for tail lights? Is that the replica lights or just for any lights? I don't think mine is going to be as close to original as most of you guys. Mine will get inspiration from 89 I guess but I don't care if taillights are exact same.. and I plan on having either flip up or fixed headlights, probably fixed like on the new vettes and just get the shaded covers and work it into shape of car.

RE: LOSING MY MIND!!! LOL

if ur amking a mold 2, its gonna be more then 5,000.00 for fiberglass and resin. and if ur gonna make a mold i also sugest shelling out around 700.00 for a good fiberglass chopper gun. look to spend about 10,000.00 when making ur body. (if ur going with a mold 2)

Jon, have you ever seen Justin's website? If not you really need to. He has pictures of several "replicas" each of which were done a little differently. http://www.thebatcave8k.com/

RE: LOSING MY MIND!!! LOL

You will need to cut out the entire body leaving only the bare frame, engine and sub-components. The floorboards and fire wall will need to be cut out and the floor boards lowered to meet the seating height requirements. So all this seating is just a moot point, the proper Recaro seats will be installed and the transmission tunnel with floorboards will need to be worked out; templates work great for this.
Steering is the easy part, Borgson makes all the components you will need to hook up the steering. And you will need to install a new I-Ditit steering column or Flaming River, makes columns just like the real car.
The cockpit and dash is all scratch built a decent gauge package will cost at least $1,200.00. The total cost can conservatively cost at the low end if you do most everything your self $30 grand up to $70 grand if you piece it out.

__________________________
Low Total $30560.00

Most of the numbers are very conservative and doesn’t cover priming and painting and only covers most of the large components. There are so many items not listed here that runs up to thousands of dollars. This is if you do all the work your self, I would hate to see how much labor is involved.
I am sure there are guys here that can run these numbers through the roof.

RE: LOSING MY MIND!!! LOL

As promised.

I went to the shop the other night and collected my Batfiles. I pulled the pics of the flip-flop painted 89.

Here are three pics.

The scanner doesn't do the hardcopies justice. The paint on this car (IMO the best paint job on a Keaton car to date. (And these pics were taken in 89) is actually metallic Rootbeer with multi-layers of transparent colors painted over it. Changes from off-black, to green to blue to gold to red to yellow depending on how the light hits it.

I'm using this same paint to finish the "TunerBat Bike" and I hope I can do justice to this fantastic finish.

Hay Tim; does that sign on Batmans cape say "Kick Me"? I noticed that the turbine is in upsidedown and has a back up plate behind it?

RE: LOSING MY MIND!!! LOL

Batgod, how could this photo have been taken in 89? Isn't it one of the ones built by Jay for WB for Returns? One of the 5 or so sold to museums for display, like the ones I have links to in the "Visit the Batmobile" thread. That's what I was told by the folks at http://www.historicautoattractions.com/Pages/home.html

It has the same upside down intake and the cast exhaust tips.

Thought 89 meant 89 car not the year.

Now you've gone and angered the BatGods(?).

You should call that Carmel guy.

And I think pretty much everyone had scared off that Jon guy
