RE: Howard S Studios

This guy is a total tool and I've been back and forth with him (through private PM's) on the the RPF board. Howard was bidding on an Ebay auction for a Studio Scale Batmobile casting some time ago. About a day before it ended I recognized his name and sent him a private email telling him to be careful and make sure it was the right one. He responded asking if I could get him a casting. Huh? I never said I had one but ok. Before I was able to get an answer, the auction ended and he won the thing for about $1500. Too late.

Ok, so now he goes to the RPF, posts pics of his crap casting and pics of my finished Mattel Dream Halloween Studio Scale model...of course without asking. It looks like he pulled the pics it off this forum btw. In it he describes how he is creating a kit. Me being Mr. Giving added a post describing the pics above that were mine and giving a bit of history about the casting. What does this guy do next? Yup, bash me for not responding in time and getting him a casting(s) for less. So now he's pissed that he spent $1500. When I asked him if he was selling kits OR this was just for himself, he side stepped the question. I then asked him to take my pics down because I wasn't about to freely advertise for someone else. That made it worse.

I'm sure the kit will be great but being a man up front is key when you are asking for help, reference, advice. You can get help for something private (as a hobby) OR for something that will be sold and make money for that individual (probably with a fee attached).

End of rant...

Sorry Dave if ur pics were used. We're now using watermarks to prevent such mishaps. Apologies if this upset U.

RE: Howard S Studios

That's just not right. I've communicated a bit with him back and forth as well about a few things. I got the feeling from his emails that he thinks he's above everyone. He was using a very condescending tone in his emails. Maybe that's just the way it came across. His work is outstanding, no doubt there. I had a hellboy bust of his and loved it but had to let it go. If I get the opportunity to get a keaton bust, I think I just may have to.

Dee,

It's all cool between me and everyone here on this forum. When I asked Howard to remove the pics he came at me with "they've been floating around the web for years so big deal!" Yeah, that makes it ok...hmmm.

Now I just need to get Jack to watermark all of those pics he hasen't shared yet.

Dave

If Jack has pics that he hasn't aired yet he'll either watermark them or not show them at all. Jack is the king of photos here and would ask for permission b4 he shows any pics. I'd say Jack is hiding photos of the next Bat-movie that he's gonna release one by one as teasers leading up to the preview. Damn U Jack........Show us the photos.....

Maybe that is just what some artists are like. I know at least one other who seems to be the same way. It's too bad really. You show a little admiration for their work and it goes to their heads...

RE: Howard S Studios

actaully Howard is a good guy and so Is Bob, Tim. maybe its the people emailing them for answers on how to do things,If it is not delivered on a silver platter all the sudden you are a prick and a bad guy. we get over 25 to 30 emails a day on how to make this or make that . so we answer all them , by the time we are done it would take 2 hrs out of our day, now we have the return emails from the answer,s they did not undrstand . and at the end of the day if you dont answer the question 100% correct ,THEN you are a condisending prick.
so tell me Tim , do you have a family? reason I ask is , would you rather spend 2-3 hrs returning emails for someone you are not to sure will ever use your advise or call you a prick OR would you spend it with you kids?
but yet there is more...
allot of the people that are asking questions really want to be Batman .. such as
how do I make a bullet proof this or a working grappler . or the best is I want to clean up my neighborhood
what kind of weapons should I use , can you make a fully funtional Batsuit for $500 dollars ?
and mind you this is no bullshit , these are the qustions we get asked at least once every 2 weeks.
the others are ....
how do you make a mold,
what materials?
who do you get it from?
can you send me a sample?
how do you run foam? are those fiberglass or silicon molds?
are those glass eyes, will you teach me?
can I come to your house and see your collection
(never met you , Since I live in Detroit chances are NO)
would you sell me a copy of this or a copy of that?
and there are many more ..just hate hearing how artist are snobish and look down upon people.
Pick up a book and read just like I did and Bob Did .

Must have missed something. Talk about a de-rail and a re-rail de-rail......

Bobby does that mean I can still expect an email with the answer to my question? Oh my email changed too.

RE: Howard S Studios

The emails I sent had nothing to do about how to do something, can I come by and see the sculpts, or anything elese along those lines. I was interested in commissioning/purchasing some things and that's what I got. Howard has a business going and I know he must be busy with the amount of work he's doing and doesn't want to sit there answering emails. That's no problem. He's probably a good guy but you really can't convey any emotion in emails so it's tough to say exactly what a person wants to soudn like in an email.

RE: Howard S Studios

No, not a de-rail. On topic actually. we answer all emails with sincerity, honesty, and concern. And we still from time to time will get people who feel rubbed the wrong way, or Just plain don't like us for no real good reason, and are just looking for that one small excuse to get on a public chat board and lash out. God forbid you actually do something wrong. Then what happens is a sort LYNCH MOB mentality takes over.
I have know idea what happened with this situation with Howard. Frankly, it's none of my buisiness. Both of us have known Howard for several years, and have regarded him as talented, and a decent person. Never condesending. He also has a HUGE following, how did he do that if he is such a condesending jerk?. How did that happen?. Any chance Howard might be invited here to defend himself?
What I don't like about using a chat board as a place of Judge Jury and execution, is that often people rarely care about both sides of the situation, It usually ends up about politics. Heck, I don't have the time to read everything published about Mark Towles situation with some guy. Most people are gona just take a look at his avatar, his bad typing skills, and be convinced that he must be some kind of creep if all these people say so (I am neither for him, or against him). Someone may have a gripe, state his case, his buddies chime in, with their two cents, and eventually the guy is outnumbered 10 to one, gets convicted of being something evil. I have seen posts where someone said, "I don't even know the guy, and I don't like him". To REALLY be fair to both sides you have to invest a considerable amount of TIME.. lots and lots of TIME!!!!
So, in my opinion, if you are gona go after someone, you'd better be prepared to go the distance, you are publically attacking that person's reputation, integrity, and maybe even their livelyhood. That's a HUGE thing to do. Don't take it casually. Be professional about it. State it in a polite, dignified manner. Avoid cheap shots. Avoid personal pokes, and stuff like "he's a real tool". Give that person a real opportunity to correct a situation with dignity(maybe privately would be good). If you make childish comments, or cracks, you can end up looking like just as much of a moron as the person you are claiming is.
No one is either all perfect, or all evil. The truth always lies in the middle. Treat your gripes in a dignified, manner, the person you are attacking could end up your best friend.

I come here looking to share, and to hopefully get inspired to build batmobiles and other related stuff. Not to spend even 10% of time reading, or puting up posts like this.

I have left other chat boards for this reason. Too much stuff about so, and so. sometimes I'm the target, sometimes I'm the good guy. Not enough energy spent on the reason the board was put up in the first place by the general populace. See ya. you can delete my account, or ban me. or whatever. This is my last post here.

RE: Howard S Studios

Bobs im speaking for myself but I am sure many others agree when I say your skills and talents are to be marveled at. you said any one find you guys errogant? I am not sure that applies, I mean you speak with wisdom some of us are only guessing about. Do I think when you say if you want Quality glassing Projects You should use vinyl ester resin like that sold by West systems? I believe you whole heartedley. When you tell me the only way to get my canopy to have windows in it and to fit exact is to send it to you to recast. Man that would be great but money doesn't allow it and the fact that you don't have the rest of the car to fit it to. So I do what i can even if it does not last i gave it my all.Now I was talking to some people the other day in England who said they where doing an exact batman costume and they where using molds from the 89 movie that they got from some place in Canada And I ask if they had talked to you guys and their answer was they are the most talented Costume makers that they Know of. So do people respect who you are and what you say. Your work and your willingness to share does speak volumes and we all are listening.

RE: Howard S Studios

Not sure what's going on here at all but MY dealings with Howard were all downhill and they were simply between me and him. He was never polite, understanding or even cared what I was trying to say. No I didn't praise him. No, I don't think he's a sculpting god. Maybe that's why it went bad hmm?? I simply added information to his post about building a Batmobile model and explaining MY PICS he posted. He went off the deep end with an old Ebay email I sent him and then when I tried explaining myself through private emails he goes ahead and posts on his thread. THEN he tells me to get a life. THEN he tells me "he's got me figured out" meaning I'm going into production with these models. THEN he threatens me with reporting me to Ebay for spamming (warning him that the casting he's bidding on may not be the one he wants). Jeez man, you try to help and this is what you get. I've noticed over and over again people with a lot of talent showing off their work. That's all good but everyone as a right to their opinion and to add to the thread. Right? I don't care what anyone has done in their carreer or personal life but they are not above learning and taking critism from the rest of us. Are some of us THAT good that we can't improve somehow? Bullshit. I wish in that case a person would post...and then just say please don't add anything except praise because I'm going to get mad and upset. I haven't seen it this bad on the forums...since 3rd grade show-and-tell.

p.s. funny, because when I showed pics of the 1/18 scale 1989 car one of the first replies was "what's up with the headlights". So I explained.
