"I never complained about wanting information. I said I agree it sucks that you have to have 100 posts to read a comment."

A comment? What do you think are in the 100+ posts "Gee the weather is sure nice today", "Boy, I sure miss disco"?

You have to have a 100+ posts to read the information.

RE: A Load of Crap!!!!

Jee's wot a bunch of babies. I've never hear someone bitch like that just cos it's gonna take them a little while to get up a few posts. God forbid U guys have to stick around for a while to find out what it has taken all the builders years to find out. Respect lads. Respect. U should be happy that there are guys willing to share information. If it was 500+ posts needed, the wannabe builders should still be greatful to be included. As the lads said...If u wanna know..Ask a question. And the high posts are not all the builders. I haven't started a build YET but i'm just happy to be part of an excellent site. I am however putting a deposit on a kit next week and I'll then be known as A BUILDER.

P.S. Thank to all the guys for all the help and usefull information.

RE: A Load of Crap!!!!

Heck if some of you guys think this board is eliteist(sp?) check out some of the car boards that involve racing. I know some that have been know to stike down a guy for just saying "hi" as their first post. Those gous can be very secretive when it involves the set-up of thier cars too, they are afterall trying to compete on a track. One board I'm on has similar, while not as extreme, posting quotas. This was done for similar reasons. We have a trading section and it isnt fair to just allow someone with 0 post count to come on and sell their car parts. A newbie even cryed about it. Point is, noone new who he was or his his parts were in good shape. So i totally understand the decision behind post quotas.

RE: A Load of Crap!!!!

Dee is a great example. He is fairly new here and he already has well over 300 posts.

If you don't think you have anything to contribute, you're wrong. Go out and search the internet for a new picture, research and find out who sculpted the original cars, scan something from your personal collection, draw a sketch of how you think headlights could be added to an '89, find a build log where someone has sculpted their own car body or fabricated their own chassis, play around with foam, fiberglass, clay, etc. and share your experience with pictures. There are thousands of ways to contribute and earn respect.

That's what the "core" people here do. Of course we also do a lot of goofing around shootin' the sh*t, but we are always on the lookout for new info, parts, pictures, etc. and we come together here to share what we find. Kevin's latch is a good recent example of that and DH has an amazing ability to find new pictures every week.

See, Dee and Tim are great guys. They are part of the core but in no way jerks. I will tell everyone this, we have had pros here from Hotwheels, contracted builders, Pro molders and Movie folk all helping out to make this site work.

The pros know that they can keep coming here and be just one of the guys and share techniques and ideas freely. DooHee, Tim, Jack, Dee, Dave, Kevin etc, etc are a big reason why this works.

RE: A Load of Crap!!!!

Yes I agree with you Keatoncar. Those guys you have mentioned have been here since the beginning and have earned their stripes. You and I have both been here pretty much since the beginning, but as you can see Dee has more posts than the both of us and he hasn't been here that long. Whereas I am sporting just over 50 posts myself. These guys just don't seem to realize that you can't just come in and expect to be level 50 orc hunter, you have to work your way up to it and if you don't have the diligence to do that, then it's probably not worth the wait and/or work.

I know a lot of us don't really have that much to contribute to this site save for the little one-liners, which I only really see with the brand new guys. Some of the new(er) people come in headstrong with tons of good stuff to contribute and it doesn't take long for them to get up in posts.

Don't sell yourself short KeatonCar! You are definitely one of the core old-timers...

Joker, I think you've been here awhile too but with a name like "Joker" there have probably been few since we started.

Here's a suggestion, use your real name. People will get to know you better that way (or at least feel that do) than if your name is "BatLover263". You'll notice that most of the old-timers do that with a few exceptions but we usually call them by there real name now. (I still don't know KeatonCar's name, but we just call him Limey )

There's been just one that I know of using my name & avatar, but that was before the registration. I'd go by my real name, but then people would cornfuse me with that nut who flips into the balls (Justin).

Too many Tims, Bob, and Justins...

It's okay to have a screen name really, it's just nice to be able to call you Justin now instead of "The Joker". Kind of like the way we call "Batgod", Paul or "Webmaster", DH. I was originally "1989Batmobile" but changed it pretty early on.

DH, you really need to change that "Webmaster" thing. It's so 1997. (and very geeky anyway )

I'll just add a direct comment to you AnythingSciFi. You created this thread and then vanished. You made your 1 post to get it started and you haven't even bothered to chime in for a second post. That’s why your post numbers are so low. If that's the best you can do then maybe you are in the wrong place anyway.

Yeah, Paul. Actually I did know that but forgot. It was on the package you sent me...

There's another example of what this board is like. Many of us know each others addresses and send various things to one another or talk on the phone. It's a great board to be a part of.

RE: A Load of Crap!!!!

Definitely is a great board. And I have a lot of respect for the core guys. I wasn't complaining, just putting forth the view of a guy who can't build a car or offer info on his build.

The sharing of info thing is interesting. I do a lot of model building and I knwo there are people who build stuff that won;t share any techniques or "secrets" and there are others who are pretty open about it. When I started to share pics and info at first I though - well, I can do this better than all these other people and if I help them out, they will be able to do/have what I do/have. But really, I enjoy sharing with people and such now. I learned that just becasue I share a technique or "trade secret" doesn't mean everyone else will be able to do it. There's definietly a lot of ART in modelbuilding and the same thing is true for an 89 car. There will probably always only be a few who have really great 89's. Others can't afford it or just plain can't do it.

RE: A Load of Crap!!!!

I don't think too many people are unwilling to share info. Professional builders have to be concerned with competition so they keep many things to themselves which I understand. Home builders often share info with each other about finding specific parts but not with everyone due to limited availability.

Tim hit the nail on the head!!
No one spoon-fed us; we spent years researching all this information. You can help by running search engines looking for components and pictures. That is all we ask of you, if you aren’t willing to help then maybe this board isn’t for you.
