RE: '89 Batmobile side mechanics

Sorry guys for not updating on this. Looks like we will not have time to do this, this year.
For what it's worth: the way I would do this if I had to make side mechanics If I had an 89 car project going on: I would sculpt the parts that could not be found in existence out of clay. Then I would contact a foundry and find out what they need to have done from me. What I think they might need is a wax postive to make a sand neg, and then they pour the metal in which melts the wax out of a sprue into the sand mold. Let me elaborate: the wax is covered with a special sand. As you pour the molten metal into the top opening, the wax is instantly melted out the bottom sprue. The sand mold gets easily broken off when the metal is cooled. And I might be wrong on this. This is known as the "lost wax method". So from a silicone neg of the casting of the clay sculpture, you can pour in X no. of wax pieces. There are some silicones that will take pouring of certain metals. This could be done if the piece were just an open face mold. i.e. flat on one side.

I believe the wax is vaporized from the extreme heat of the molten metal.

Or... You could just go to the store and buy them.

RE: '89 Batmobile side mechanics

I think I'm going to be embarassed to post the pix after I make my side mechanics...

I woefully admit that I found some interesting unique parts which I am in the process of modifing, and in a few months or so,I will post what what they look like.
they will not be true to form, but at least kool looking,,, I hope !
